We love Samurai! The food is very fresh and the fish could not be any better. The service is great, on top of it. We have been going here for over 10 years and have never had an issue with anything. Go you will not regret! We have our sushi chef that we love Richard, he is great!

Great happy hour specials! Friday nights here are the best! Sit in the bar area, the bartender Mary is so much fun!

Friend invited me and a bunch of other people to grab some sushi here, as she's a regular. It was my first time there....I suspect this place use to be something other than a sushi restaurant beforehand. It was pretty packed and noisy too. I didn't order any sushi, instead, I got the tonkatsu dinner, which was good. I mean, you can't really go wrong with fried pork loin and rice right? It was a big helping too, I had to take some home. The sushi didn't look as impressive as my dinner...so I'm kind of glad I didn't order any. A friend of my friend ordered the baked scallops and that seriously did not look appetizing at all.... I think I'd go to some other places before I came back here.

Probably one of my fave sushi restaurants in the Sacramento area! My co-worker introduced me to this place and I've been recommending it to others since. I've gone a handful of times and try to get something new every time I go. They have crazy/good sauces on their sushi rolls. Some of my faves are the Lion King, 007, Forever Samurai, and Baked Scallop. They also have an awesome happy hour menu.

I loved the sushi at this place. And the price was reasonable too. We went right after work and the service was fast.

Have been to this place several times, mainly because my sister-in-law and her family love it so much. The salad is good, which a creamy sesame dressing, and the miso soup is good, not too salty, though they don't give you on of those bowl spoons; just ask for one if you don't want to do the traditional slurp from the bowl. This place is known for it's rolls and sauces, but the regular sushi that you would find anywhere else is good, too. The tuna is good, very red and cold. But the meal of 12 pieces of tuna with a salad, soup, and steamed rice probably wasn't worth $29.95. The salmon sashimi isn't the best I've had, but passable with some doctoring up with lemon juice and soy/wasabi. Tonight we got the 49ers roll, which I didn't taste, as the bright red sauce on top was off putting to me, but the description said one of the toppings was scallop, that's all I remember. The Forever Samarai is pretty popular, though at about $15 an order.. At least the sauce is, as they drench the roll in sauce and give you a spoon to scoop all the leftover sauce. This roll has snow crab inside and lobster and the lobster sauce on top. We also got the Ebi Tempura appetizer, which had 2 shrimp and one of each of these veggies: sweet potato, yam, carrot, broccoli, and squash. The dipping sauce was the traditional brown sweet sauce. The ambiance is more family friendly, rather than the new sleek, all black sushi place designs. Being new to the area, I think I may try to scope out some other sushi restaurants to compare, and who knows? Maybe Samarai will become an old faithful for our household. Time will tell...

I returned to Samurai Sushi recently because I had another Groupon and my first visit was pretty good. I ordered the Gal-bee (Korean short ribs) and a soft shell crab roll. The crab roll was pretty good. While I was eating it I noticed an off smelling sour odor. I took a sniff of the ribs and it didn't smell quite right. I tasted 2 small portions. Although it had a tasty sauce the meat smelled as if it was starting to spoil. I asked to have it replaced. The waitress took it with no problem. An Asian lady came over to me and asked what was the problem. I explained that I have eaten Korean short ribs at another restaurant but that these ribs had an off smell and taste. She said all her staff had tasted my dish and all agreed it was fine. She then preceded to tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about. To top it off, she said that it was an expensive meat was insisting that I pay for it even if I didn't eat it. Of course, I said why are you arguing with me as a customer and that I was not paying for food that might make me ill. She was not happy and I had that meal replaced with Japanese spaghetti. Needless to say that has"soured" (pun intended) me against this restaurant. I won't be back ever again.

The food wasn't very good. Most rolls are fried and/or covered in sauce but the taste of old frying oil cuts through. Tempura ice cream was a fishy shell of tempura in an oily sauce (we assume it use to be ice cream) with whipped cream on top. The seared albacore tuna was a waste of time and belly space compared to mikunis up the road. We ordered a few rolls and some hot food. All sub par. They never brought a soda we ordered. Everyone else had sake. We had coupons from an event that we paid to attend (sushi smackdown) that they refused to honor until one English speaking waiter understood that the fine print states "one per person per visit" meaning we each got a $5 discount. Initially, I was trying to give the place the benefit of the doubt. It was 8p on a weekday. Maybe stuff tasted old 'cuz it was a slow day. The mistakes with the orders changed my mind. If it's this slow, you should be able to get the order right. The kicker was the owner walking by and arguing with us out of the blue when she saw the coupons sitting on the table. We hadn't even seen our waiter to discuss it and this lady needed a dictionary. This wasn't just semantics. It was a problem with product and service. Not going back.

A decent place for japanese eats. Not too expensive and the food isn't too bad.

This review is in regard to their customer service and not their food. Their food is delicious, but I won't support a business that treats their customers so poorly. My experience was during lunch time when a coworker and I were working in the area and saw that there was a groupon for the place and decided to go for lunch. As you walk in they have the daily specials displayed and they looked delicious. We sat down and we ordered two of the specials. The waitress was really nice and took our order right away and our food was out shortly. After we finished lunch we figured that we still had $6 to spend to use the rest of our groupon amount so we ordered 3 mochi deserts. Once we finished our meal the waitress brought us our check. Now this is where the issue started. I presented my groupon to the waitress and she looked at me and said I couldn't use it as we had ordered the lunch specials. I explained to her that I wasn't aware that they were excluded and that I wish she had said something when I ordered the special and her response was that I didn't tell her I was using a groupon before I ordered. I just tried to explain that it was a misunderstanding and that we came specifically to use the groupon. She said it was a common issue that they have had with people wanting to use the groupon on the specials. So my coworker and I suggested that maybe they put a sign out next to the specials saying they were excluded from the groupon. My waitress said there was nothing she could do about the groupon, but that I could go to the front and talk to the casher about it. So this is where it gets ugly. I was being reasonable and was prepared to not be able to use my groupon, but I wanted to be heard and felt they needed to make a change in how they handle specials and making sure customers understand the exclusions when they have a groupon. I approached the front of the restaurant where the cashier was and I have my groupon out on my phone and I start to explain to her that I have a groupon and the issue and she throws her hand up in my face and says "No, groupon" and walks away completely ignoring me. That made me furious. She walks to the other side of the counter and I continue to try and explain to her the misunderstanding and she won't even look at me. I finally realize that she has no interest in what I am saying and I put my credit card on the try and sent I on the counter. She pushes it back towards me and says "Me no ring you up" and walks away. I had no idea what I was supposed to do and started looking around trying to figure out how I was going to pay. Another lady walks up to me and I explain her how I have been treated and that I was upset and all I was trying to do was to explain about the groupon and wanted to let them know that in the future they might want to consider putting up a sign that the lunch specials are excluded from the groupon or to perhaps figure out a way for the waitress to check with a customer if they have any coupons when they order. Her response to me was that, "This is a nice restaurant and they don't want to advertise that they have a groupon to the public". That's fine, she wasn't willing to listen to me either and she wasn't sorry for how the cashier treated me. She also made a big deal that I didn't present my groupon before ordering and I explained to her that presenting the groupon prior to ordering isn't a requirement to use groupon. I finally gave up and handed her my card to pay as I was done arguing and spinning in circles. Then all of a sudden she gives up and lets me use my groupon. Are you kidding me? I went through all of that and you let me use it??? I think the only reason she let me use it because everyone in the restaurant was staring at us! But needless to say I will never return to Samurai Sushi. I refuse to support a business that treats its customer with no respect.

I'm really thinking more like 3.5 stars for this place, but three seems fair enough. Any way, I've always noticed this place because of how large and colorful the building is, and I was always curious about it, so my girlfriend and I decided to give it a shot last night after an extremely long and stressful day. We show up around 6:45 and get seated pretty quickly. There were a lot of people inside, but the place is so huge that getting a table was not a problem what so ever. The inside was pretty cool actually. It had a long sushi bar counter and plenty of seating and several large televisions that were showing highlights of the World Cup. Honestly, the inside seemed more like a mid-west buffet joint than a sushi restaurant, but it was kinda cool and different. When we got our menu's, we immediately came to the same conclusions: #1: The menu is huge, and has a lot of really unique items on it (like Samurai Spaghetti) that you don't usually find at sushi restaurants. #2 D-a-m-n, the sushi is EXPENSIVE. You would think with so many other sushi bars around offering half off rolls, that they would bring their prices down a bit, but nope. There were a few simple one's that were like $9-10, but those were just basic rolls. If you wanted something more fancy, like those rolls that are set on fire when they bring them out to you, you're looking at like $17-18 dollars just for that one roll! Ouch. So we decided on the Super Rainbow, the Spicy Killer, and the Crazy Horse. We also got an order of the Samurai Spaghetti, a couple of cocktails, and small soups and salads. Not a whole lot of food, but enough to satisfy us. The food came out pretty quickly, maybe within fifteen minutes or so. However, the Samurai Spaghetti came out about ten minutes after the sushi did. Perhaps it just takes a lot longer to make. Anyway, the sushi was good, but not great. I've had better and I've had worse. But for the price, I think we were both expecting maybe a little more out of the rolls. The Samurai Spaghetti, on the other hand, was really good. It's basically udon noodles in a peanut butter sauce (think Thai food) with shrimp, scallops, and mussels. It was about $16.00 a plate, but it was was worth it, despite the price. So After we finish, we get the check, and the total comes to $69.00, and that's without the tip...bummer. I wouldn't expect a dinner consisting of three rolls, two cocktails, small soups and salads and a specialty dish to be that cheap or anything, but this just seemed a little too pricey for what we got. Don't get me wrong, we still enjoyed our meal, but there's plenty of sushi restaurants in the area that will give you more food for a cheaper price that taste just as good, if not better, than Samurai Sushi. I would come back here if I was part of a large group, but otherwise I just prefer to stick with Soho or Sushi Cafe in midtown. But if your curiosity gets the better of you, and you just HAVE to try the food here, show up at happy hour. I believe happy hour runs 3-6 pm, and you probably won't have to break the bank like we did to get a decent meal.

I was out here strictly for work and my coworker and I were taking clients for lunch. They suggested Samurai Sushi, so found myself here on a warm Thursday afternoon. Walking in, you'd have no sense you were in a Japanese restaurant other than the menu items on display out front. The place reminded me of a rest stop restaurant or something that comes attached to a hotel. The high ceilings were kind of cool, but not suited well to a Japanese restaurant. The space was quite large and had the ambiance of a chain diner-very atypical of a sushi joint. I ordered the Veggie Maki roll, which you can opt for steamed or tempura veggies. It was stuffed with generous pieces of carrots, broccoli and avocado. Overall it was just okay-nothing too memorable. Still the veggies seemed fresh enough and our server was attentive and friendly. The place seems to be popular with the nearby business folk. I think it came to about $64 for the four of us-several sushi rolls, edamame, a bento box and soft drinks-I guess that's not bad. Limited options in this area, so you could do a lot worse....

If it weren't for Groupon, I would've never come to this place. However, I gotta say that you don't need the Groupon to get a good deal here. They daily lunch and dinner specials for a good price. I like their sushi special. It usually features 2 rolls and some nigiri for a really good price. Yay! Kind of an odd location for a sushi place. It's off of Folsom Blvd. Not next to any shopping plazas. The parking lot is decent. I haven't had an issue yet. The inside is pretty huge! You could have a big party here if you really wanted. However, the decor does seem a little outdated. Could use a day or two to do a deep clean of everything. I feel like the seats and tables are a little sticky. The sushi isn't high quality, but it's edible. Their lion king roll is their famous roll. It's good, but it's not hard to mess up right? Hubs tried their sukiyaki and really liked it. I feel like the portions are on the smaller side. I wish we got more or bigger rolls. Regardless though, this is still one of my go to sushi places because of their specials.

The worst thing about going out to lunch during a weekday is not having enough time during the lunch hour. This was not the case with Samurai, service was excellent, did not have to wait too long before ordering, and food came out real fast. Food was tasty although one of the rolls was served with a mustard "rainbow" that tasted a bit off. Docked a star because many of the rolls were way overpriced.

We eat here every time we go to Rancho Cordova. We always start with the delicious oyster shooters, and we never forget to include the Tuna Tataki and Tender Rose. Jimmy's special is another one we enjoy too. I have never been disappointed with the service which has always been attentive and kind. The quality of food is great too. We will always come back to Samurai Sushi whenever we are in the area.

Great food but since it was limited seats we were hurried along. Some of the best Sushi I have had. I have been here many times and the Chef specials are awesome!!! I recommend this place.

If you purchased a recent Groupon and attempt to use it, FORGET IT. The management and servers will come up with excuses of "items are already discounted so cannot use Groupon for it." or quote "we've sold 8000+ of these Groupons and our customers know it." Even though, the fine print, does NOT state any restrictions except with using upon discounts or additional coupons with it, which we didn't do. Food was mediocre, sushi fish portion was stingy, service was uneventful. So no, not worth it with the Groupon or not. Should've known the flag when its a Saturday night and there was no wait time.

I love this place for lunch! I am a regular and the staff are always friendly. Sushi is always fresh and extremely flavorful! I brought sushi newbies here and they always leave converted!!
(5)Alice C.
The bib bim bap came out without the crispy rice bottom and the bowl was cold to the touch. Edamame was under cooked. We sent it back and it came back over cooked. Sounds like their new cook still needs to work things out. Service was friendly and they replaced the cold bib bim bap with a bento plate. Maybe it was an off day.

We came here today for lunch and had to wait a few minutes just to get seated. The restaurant had customers but there seemed to be no staff around. After finally getting seated, we were left by ourselves at the table for another 5 minutes, without even getting offered water, before we flagged down the waitress. My husband and dad ordered their chicken teriyaki lunch box and I ordered their Hurricane Roll without tobiko. My husband and dad got a choice of soup or salad with their food. I was surprised I didn't even get the complimentary miso soup that I get at every other sushi place. I was starving at this point and the food was taking forever to come out. Finally, 30 minutes later, our food arrived. Yes, I said 30 minutes! It would have been nice if our waitress came by in between and let us know how long the food would take, given us updates, or apologized for the long wait time (you know, basic courtesy most restaurants extend to their customers.) But, nope, nothing. I have to say that my sushi roll was disgusting. There was this white sauce on there that had a strange and overpowering taste -- it was nowhere near the orange, spicy special sauce I'm used to having at other sushi places. I was also surprised when my roll came out and I saw the stingy portion -- only 6 pieces for $10.50. For the first time, I didn't finish my entire roll (anyone who knows me knows this is rare, as I love sushi.) My husband and dad didn't care too much for their food, either, and I hated my roll. It was just way too overpriced for 6 pieces of sushi that lacked flavor and, in my opinion, quality. I've been here before and have been happy with my food but today's experience was very unpleasant. I am hoping it was a fluke and that if I visit this place, again, they will redeem themselves as far as food quality and customer service.

Probably the worst sushi experience I've ever had. You could tell everything they used was very cheap. Ordered the edamame, california roll, spicy tuna roll, HWY 50 roll and Lion King roll. There was yellow mustard squirted on top of the HWY 50 roll that my girlfriend ordered like it was a hotdog. This is not written in the description of the roll either. Not inventive or creative at all. My spicy tuna roll just had a bunch of siracha poured on top. The service was average to slightly above average. There are much better options near by. Not sure how anyone could give their sushi rolls a positive review. I don't plan on returning.

We were excited to finally try this place and arrived around 2pm. We were seated pretty fast as there was hardly any customers. Place seemed nice. They sat the two of us at a very large table at the end, which was a little strange since there were plenty of booths and places to sit for two. 20 minute go by, no water and the waitress says someone will be right with you. During the 20 minutes other customers arrive and get served water. During the time we are observing the waitresses helping other customers, serving meals, taking phone calls and laughing while straightening the chairs at tables. Finally after 25 minutes we started walking out and the waitress tries to call out to us and says sorry. Completely irritated we left. I can't speak for the food or the water, since we were never served. I will NEVER go back and will share with my friends to never go there either. I would completely understand, somewhat, if the place was busy. That was NOT the case though.

My husband keeps dragging me to this place cause it's near my work. The first time I went there I had a sashimi platter, as if you can possibly mess up on that dish. Just went back for the second time and had the spicy salad. As if you could possibly mess up on salad RIGHT... WRONG! They drenched the salad so much with spicy sauce that all you can taste was spicy and nothing else. Waiter was kind and friendly..we tip him generously but food was terrible! Had to eat tic tacs afterwards to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Never coming back.
(1)Detria C.
I've been coming here for almost five years, in the last couple of months I've been disappointed!!! The waitstaff is awful one young man was just throwing things on the table as he's running past!!! HOW RUDE. The quality of food is not up to par, I was there almost two weeks ago and I didn't even eat all my rolls I ended up throwing most of it away!!! Did they sell this place or change ownership?
(1)Nancy B.
I've been going here for 10 years. The service is always friendly and attentive. The sushi specials for lunch and dinner are awesome. Today, I had happy hour for the first time in years, it was great!! Inexpensive rolls, great wine and very good service.
(4)Chris K.
Great service, we had several servers come in and check on us. Steve the bartender was very friendly and pours some great drinks. This is a nice quiet alternative to Mikunis

Samurai Sushi was open till 8:30 PM on the 4th of July so we excitedly came here for dinner that night (yesterday)! The last time we ate here was for my graduation dinner a couple years ago, and although we don't frequent this place much, it is already categorized as family favorite. I love the ambience for two reasons: 1) it is relaxed and family-friendly unlike many Japanese restaurants which can be very stiff/formal/polished 2) I love the 'blue' theme going on. The ambience almost reminds me of a Mexican restaurant, which is a good thing. We ordered salmon teriyaki and three rolls - the Lion King, the Five Star, and the Folsom Roll. Our adorable waitress almost insisted we order the Lion King roll and it tasted quite good. It was different because it was a baked roll, and had a slightly cheesy/creamy crust on top. If you don't like heavy rolls don't go for this. My family loved Five Star but I did not. The roll itself was a standard DF shrimp, avocado, spicy sauce, etc. kind of deal but it came with a half-platter of special "Samurai Sauce" which was a thick butter and soy-sauced based sauce with garlic, ginger, curry powder(?), spring onions, etc. The rolls were half drenched in the sauce and I thought it really overwhelmed the flavor of the sushi. Sushi + thin curry/thick sauce = too radical of a combo for me. Otherwise, the sauce flavor was fine in itself. What I enjoyed was that each roll was topped with a different type of raw fish -- salmon, different types of tuna, etc. LOVED the Folsom roll! A perfect combo of sweet, spicy, and tart (with a lemon piece on every roll), and since it was not DF shrimp based, it was light too. 5 stars for great service, consistently solid food, and a nice ambience. Would recommend it to anyone craving sushi, who is in the Sac area/near highway 50!

Samurai sushi is located next to a hotel, and I almost missed the entrance to this restaurant. So I came here for lunch, and it seems to be a popular place for lunch for people who work by. I saw a lot of people come here during their lunch hour. I ordered a lunch special - the tempura and sashimi special. I am a big fan of sashimi in general. I love raw fish and the way it melts in your mouth. The salad here was good, I like the dressing - it's a tangy, asian dressing and I like the crunch of the vegetables. As for my main entree, it was rather disappointing. The raw tuna wasn't that fresh or great. It was chewy and it came with a weird texture. I didn't want to finish all the tuna but I did anyways. For the tempura, there's only one tempura shrimp and it didn't even look like they used a tempura batter. It reminded me of the panko batter for some reason. The vegetables were tempura fried though. I would hope for more tempura shrimp when I order a tempura dish. For the other items in my dish, I didn't care much for the cold asian noodles. It was a little bland. The deep fried dumplings/dim sum was weird, it just reminded me of frozen dim sum that was cooked and deep fried. The dish also came with rice, white rice - you can't go wrong with it but I wasn't in the mood for rice. Overall, I wouldn't come again for lunch. I read bunch of raves about the happy hour so maybe it's decent but the fish itself doesn't seem that fresh. This sushi place is ehh. If you want good sashimi, don't come here for it.
(3)Sunny L.
My friends and I came during lunch and it was sure busy. Within minutes, the staff seated us; they were really friendly and informative. It seemed like they had a full staff that day but still understaffed. My group ordered a sushi Boat (BOAT A) and it humungous for 3 people. It could serve about 5-6 people who can eat a good amount. Really big. Also, I ordered the Hot green tea which was delicate. The place was clean, loud because it was busy, but nice. I would come here again (which I have). I would recommend it. Pros: Staff, Big, parking, Food. Cons: Loud Stars: 4
(4)Jessica L.
Yes, this is the place with the crazy neon lights on the roof. I have to be honest, I never took this place seriously. The lights, the location (right off highway 50 next to a eco motel). To me, It just screamed cheap food..I was wrong. They have great lunch specials each day, between $7 - $12 dollars, both rolls and bento boxes. Perfect for coworkers who have differing tastes. The service is always quick and efficient. The fish is fresh, but the rolls are pretty average. The reason for only 3 stars? - Last time I came here for lunch, we paid our bill but the manager came back over annoyed and said, "she left off one of your drinks here is your new bill". Now I've already paid and left a tip, and your server made that mistake not me. That's just bad customer service! If you eat here, make sure you check your bill!
(3)Saida O.
We really enjoyed this place! It was on a whim we tried it one evening about 5:30 pm. Sat at sushi bar, man each roll that came out for us looked amazing and tasted awesome as well. We will definitely return again soon!
(5)Mela D.
I've been to this sushi restaurant many times. Food tastes good and I've never had any issues with the waiters. Been able to use the groupon without any problems. The restaurant is very big and getting a table is very easy and fast. Overall - a satisfied customer and we will be back. Oh, and the oyster shooters are REALLY good!
(4)Christina M.
I've been twice to this Restrant and both time I was presently surprised at there service and quality of food. Great spot to stop on at happy hour, the rolls I ordered were great, on the small side but still tasty. I'd recommend this spot to a friend.
(3)Jacob B.
I came here with a buddy for some sush. We usually go to the "Nam" (blue nami), or the "Kingdom" (Mikuni - which actually means Kingdom of God, praise Jesus!) but we decided to give this place a shot...we weren't very impressed at all. Too expensive for simply average sushi, with wait staff that didn't seem very interested in serving us. We got the sushi boat...i recommend you eat sushi elsewhere!
(3)Josh N.
This is not a 50% off sushi joint. We had a Groupon so that negated the price a bit. The Famous Samurai sauce that accompanies a few of their rolls is divine. It is nice and garlicky and will stay with you. Came with some friends last night and the two ladies were quite fussy. The server handled it and it was a nice evening.
(4)Mia C.
Just another sushi place. We were in the area furniture shopping today and decided to go to Samurai because of their ongoing groupon deal. Quite surprisingly, their private parking lot was full! And it turned out to be a huge restaurant with what seemed like infinite number of tables. We ordered 3 sushi rolls - lion king roll, titanic roll and the samurai roll. Out of these only the lion king roll stood out as unique and it was very tasty. The other 2 were the kind of rolls which you have in every sushi place. There was a Japanese waitress who was almost rude, but luckily our waiter changed in between and the guy who came later was friendly.

I've been going here for over 10 years and this place is always amazing. I just went back again last night. Service was quick and perlite and our food was delicious and quick. Try the twister roll. It's amazing! Still my favorite sushi in sac.

Over the last 4 years, we have been to Samurai Sushi at least 25-30 times. We always get the Forever Samurai and Tender Rose, then, if there is room, we try other menu items. Of the last 5 meals here, all but one time were alarmingly bad (I say alarmingly because we loved the Forever Samurai and Tender Rose). This may be the last time we will eat here. The presentations are lack-luster, the salmon is not reliably fresh tasting, the atmosphere with the staff is TENSE. The Itamae are the only thing still good about this place. The hostess, a middle-aged Japanese woman (I think she is also the manager/possibly owner?), is downright unfriendly to some people. By "some people", I mean that I have witnessed her being rude to Hispanics, African-Americans, and over-weight people. A month ago, we brought some friends here after they helped us rebuild part of our deck. It was a Sunday and except for a table of the kitchen staff sitting at one table eating, we we the only patrons for the entire meal. Two of my friends are Caucasian (one a little heavy) and one Mexican, the rest of us Asian. I could see a noticeable indifference toward some of my friends by the hostess and waitress who took our orders. Our bill was over $250. Last night, we were sitting across from a table of folks (some heavy-set) that were getting downright sneering looks from the hostess. When one of the patrons came back from the restroom, the waitress (she has also been there a long time) looked at her up and down like she just got a whiff of toxic fall out nearby. Imagine going to someone's house for dinner knowing that person hates you. The manager needs to get her act together, the tension, obviously felt by staff, carries over into every aspect of our meal. I don't know that my family and I will return. Thanks to Samurai Sushi, we did find the restaurant next door called Rudy's Hideaway Lobsterhouse, my tip would be to go there.

I've eaten here several times but only because it's been a convenient half-way point to meet my friend coming from El Dorado Hills. It's not my first, second or third choices for Sushi. Their rolls are so-so and the prices are higher than some other sushi places I've been to. As far as service goes it's not bad, no complaints. All I can say is if you go here, don't expect too much. If you're a sushi snob, you'll probably be disappointed.
(2)Anita K.
Just had the rudest customer service experience here. Tried using a Groupon but was told we couldnt because we had ordered a special item. Explained to waitress that the Groupon was not specific. Asked for the manager. Waitress came back and says the manager's not coming. Shocked. We asked why. Waitress says that's the way she is. What?! Now getting upset she would not come talk with her customers, we asked again. Again, no show. Finally , flagged her down and she proceeds to start an argument instead of explaining the reason why the Groupon couldn't be accepted. More shocked than anything. What restaurant manager refuses to deal with a customer service situation?! Wow! Is all I can say (besides RUDE.)
(1)Missy L.
It use to be good, but this time the food was cold, the waitress was not very attentive, and our complaint was pretty much dismissed. We had beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, and tempura, all bad.
(3)Len F.
We go to this restaurant occasionally. We like the fact that it has plenty of seating and it is clean. The service is kind of hit and miss. Sometimes its good and sometimes not so good. The food is usually pretty tasty, but it depends on what you order. I like there yosenabe, sukiyaki and donburi. The chicken teriyaki is just OK to me. The menu is very large so you have a lot to choose from. Usually their lunch specials are priced reasonably and are good.
(4)Marilyn R.
Ordered a salmon teryiaki and tempura dinner. My friend ordered the eel dinner. Food was delicious! Served fresh and hot. Great service and staff! I really enjoyed this place! Even better was that I was able to use a Groupon voucher for a discount - awesome!
(4)R M.
This place sucks- got food poisoning and was sick within 30 minutes of leaving (should've known it was coming when the last few bites of my beef teriyaki were COLD!) Won't be going back- had a Groupon, and the waitress seemed pissed that we wanted to use it (don't worry, beeyotch...it wasn't going to affect your tip!) They're nice at the counter but the waitresses/waiters are pretty unfriendly and cold.
(1)Lien V.
Samurai Sushi was pretty much a shock to me. I'm not a huge fan of sushi but my Boyfriend loves Sushi. We decided to go to Samurai because we had a $50 GC for over a year now and decided we need to finally use it before I lose it. The croquette and Spaghetti was delicious! There was so much seafood in the Spaghetti.. It was just so good! Definitely would return back to try some more stuff on the menu.
(4)Steve H.
We were guests of a large family birthday party here which included young children. The service was just great...the wait staff was attentive, personable, gracious, and very efficient. They even offered "training chopsticks" for the younger kids...the food was very delicious and artfully prepared. We would not hesitate to dine here again with family or friends...each sushi dish we tasted was excellent and aesthetically attractive...the place is easy to find and close to the freeway...yep, really worth the visit.
(4)Mark A.
Hands down best sushi in Sacramento. Potentially the best sushi in Northern California. Order the off menu rolls for the best stuff.
(5)Ginger H.
We are without a doubt Benson and Kyung's oldest and biggest fans! We have been living in Colorado for the past 11 years and never go to Sushi without comparing our meals to the excellent Sushi that Benson introduced us to in the 1980's in Newark, CA. Hands down. Benson wins!!! If you're lucky enough to be in the area, don't miss the opportunity to dine at Samurai Sushi. Wish we were there!
(5)Ed P.
Sushi plate for lunch was $10 and came with 2 rolls and 3 nigiri. Great deal, and the sushi was surprisingly good given the low price. I'm a fan, wish it was a bit closer to my work in Folsom!

This restaurant does not honor Happy Hour prices for larger groups. Upon finding out it was a company expensed event, the owner of the restaurant informed us that Happy Hour prices do not apply to large groups. When my admin and I told her that this was never communicated anywhere, she said "Everyone else in your group is okay with it, just sit down." Our response? "I'm the manager, she's the admin. We're the ones paying the bill." At that point the owner said, "Fine, I will give you a discount." Our logical question ... "What is the discount?" The appalling answer: "Just sit down and order and then I'll tell you." Unacceptable. And she never defined large party either -our group was ~15 people. Would 5 have been okay? 10? She walked away when I asked ... yes, literally turned her back and walked away. Unfortunately for them, we don't tolerate poor customer service, lack of integrity (not honoring advertised prices), and our philosophy is to spend company money like it's our own. We walked out (boy, that surprised them!), and they chased us with the stack of happy hour menus that were previously stashed away. Too late, we already decided to take our money elsewhere. Scanning previous reviews, it seems we were not their first bait-and-switch attempt. They've pulled a similar tactic on Groupon users. And seeing how many people got food poisoning, this might have been a blessing in disguise. I can't have my team out sick - there's work to do! *cracks whip*
(1)Virginia S.
If you are looking for good and tasting sushi, this is the place for you. I've been coming here for over 20 years and still loving this place. Customer service is good and I am just in love with their sushi! Hope they never change.
(5)Mandy E.
This place was uh... ok. I'm just so hung up on Mikuni I always hope other places rolls will be like Mikuni's. I know that makes some people so sick, but hey! They had some fun rolls and dishes, but like I said, I'm just so hung up on another place I really can't say too many good things. It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't what I was looking for. Super dated place, but for some reason I found it somewhat fun. Service was a little slow, but we were there with a Groupon, so it could've been a busy night from the new groupon.
(3)Lindsay G.
Decent sushi, great lunch special. Samurai is my go to lunch spot for sushi. Sit at the sushi bar and order from Gamba, he's an interesting character with a lot of stories to tell. They definitely like their creamy mayo like sauce, so be sure to ask for it minus the creamy sauce if you're like me! $9.95 for a hearty portion of 2 rolls that consist of tuna, salmon, 3 pieces of nigiri and bowl of edamame. I find the manager lady very friendly despite the previous comments from people who are still living in 1987 and trying to use Groupons!
(4)Allison B.
Famous last words, "What do you want for dinner?" "I dont know, what do you want for dinner?" See Samurai Sushi, pull in parking lot, and head in the door. It was a bit crowded, but I guess that is to be expected on a Saturday night. Nonetheless, we were seated right away at a nice half booth near the back. I looked over the menu and selected a few rolls and Don did the same. Everything we tried was delicious and very fresh. We ordered: Y2K Roll Folsom Roll Rock'n Roll HWY 50 (My favorite) Hole in One I've never eaten so much sushi in my life, but I grubbed like a fat kid given his very own birthday cake. I probably looked like one too. All and all, it was a great spot and I'm uber glad its so close to my home...because that HWY 50 roll just may be the death of me :)
(4)Drew T.
Lots of space for large groups, very friendly and attentive waitstaff, food was prepared well and presented in a aesthetically pleasing way. Can't go wrong eating here. If you're going for lunch, try to sit at the counter or you could be waiting for a while to get your food and get out.
(4)Lisa C.
Let's put it this way, I drive 50 miles round trip to eat here. Sometimes even in traffic :/ They have fresh fish, good selection, and a cool atmosphere. I have brought so many people here and they have all loved it. We usually eat family style and enjoy the full bar service. They have dishes for all types of people. For example, my dad is lame and only eats a teriyaki box but he is happy every time. I like fresh roles with lemon and ginger, my bff loves saucy roles, and we are both happy sharing. They bring me a big-ass bowl of ginger & lemons and her every sauce they have in the freakin' place. I think the prices are acceptable for the large serving , quality products and good service. Two people who like to share and drink can get out of there for under $50. Give it a try - be happy!
(4)Janelle M.
Will not ever be coming back again the staff was very unprofessional, and what the hell is up with the ridicuous chunks of imitation crab meat? Overpriced and the quality of food is a joke! How is this place still open? I will never patronize this establishment ever again! This place is a embarrassment to the true sushi bars out there!
(1)Peter C.
We came here for a moderate sized party (20 people) and reserved their party room. (Side note: showing up at Ninja Sushi is NOT the same) The party room is superb! It is located toward the back of the restaurant, has clear french doors that allow you not to feel in a prison, and the best part...karaoke! Karaoke (Korean, Japanese, and English) that includes party lighting and a disco ball. It took a while for us to get the sound just right as there was a lot of feedback from the (wireless) microphones. No staff member really helps out (see below) Well, the food was OK. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad but maybe it's cause we were eating it party style. We ordered 2 sushi boats along with about 4-5 sides which was plenty of food for 20 people. The bad was the service. One server for the entire party room which was probably OK but we had to pretty much beg for service. People were arriving at different times so if you missed the server, then you had to wait a long time for water, or a fork, or an extra bowl. Toddlers are not patient clientele and they were not amused. I may go back only if I am coerced.
(3)Wes S.
First time ever going here. I came here during lunch on a friday and it was pretty crowded. I really wanted to like this place a lot but just couldn't. Atmosphere was cool, I really liked the bar and it was clean. But man the sushi just wasnt very fresh. As soon as I took my first bite I realized it. Not so unfresh that it would be shooting out my @ss later but definitely enough to be burping it up all day. Maybe that it was I get for ordering the 7.95 lunch special of "surprise" sushi rolls. Anyway, I will go back but in the evening for some dinner instead with some saki bombs.
(3)Ka Ying M.
I like the service. My coworker and I sat at the bar, and our chef was nice. He broke the ice with us since it was our first time there. We both ordered Lion King rolls which were amazing except that the rice was not as sticky as it should be. If not for that I would've gave this a 5 star.
(4)Saavy D.
Love this place! The titanic is my favorite roll. Great atmosphere and full bar, perfect spot for happy hour and to catch sports games on their flat screens.
(5)Sharlynne M.
First time here and waited 15 to get any beverage, plus they forgot one of our orders! Ordered the seafood spaghetti ( drenched in their sauce which made it easy to get sick of, but it was good), ninja sushi (recommend), samurai sushi (had the same sauce as the spaghetti so wasn't A good combo w/ the spaghetti! Miso soup and salad was good--- this was probably my fave out of all my orders, For sushi look up Fuji in Elk Grove or Raku Sushi in West Sac!!!!!!
(2)Jae H.
I actually got food poisoning here. The tuna was horrifically off colour (neon pink is a no-no), and their sesame oil on the dish tasted rancid. I literally could not get the taste out of my mouth (soda, coffee, nothing helped) and I was in the bathroom for the next two straight days. My friend's sushi dish had actual yellow mustard on it. Went on a Sunday, everyone and their mom brought their children. THAT sure was fun! Nothing like a chopstick drum circle run by five year olds to add to the ambience. Did you know little Skylar doesn't like shrimp? I do, thanks to the rude patrons' need to blather on and on about their kid. In a "nice" sushi restaurant. Disgusting, embarrassing, and I missed work because of it. If you like the people you're going out to eat with, don't go here.
(1)James H.
Great sushi! But the server couldn't understand English all that well. We asked for rice instead of a salad, but we still got the salad, we asked again to get another rice instead of salad as a substitute. But again, she brought another salad... I love funny thing is she never got it haha, but later on I just told I believe he was the manager and he took care of us. Thank you! But I'd go for the ninja roll and samurai roll. The cheaper of the rolls, but the best. Oh! Don't forget, GET THE GROUPON!!! It makes it worth the effort. Although you can't get a special with the Groupon, just get the rolls. :)
(4)Kara S.
Heeerrrrroooooo, I love this place! Must sit at the sushi bar for complete experience. Optimal time to hit this place up is happy hour, lest you pay full (over) price. This place caters to your creative appetite. Give the sushi bar guy a quick list of your likes and dislikes and he'll create something special just for you. It's really clean, the service is prompt and there are multiple large screen tvs to watch sports games. They have lunch specials every weekday as well.
(4)Elizabeth S.
I loved this place! Everyone was really nice, the sushi chef was talkative and answered all my questions and engaged me in conversation while I wasn't eating. The tuna and salmon nigiri were fantastic as was the tuna bomb. I also ordered the tuna tataki to take home and it's fantastic! Very fresh fish, super nice service, and I had NO problem using my Groupon. They also have the most interesting sushi menu I've ever seen. I'm only in the Sacramento area for a short while but as long as I'm around I'll be going back there at least once a week so I can try EVERYTHING on their menu!
(4)Greg C.
I've been coming here for years. I love their daily sushi special. It's good regardless of what is on special. Sometimes the service can be just a little slow, but this is a decent spot for lunch or dinner.
(4)Marco A.
Samurai Sushi is my favorite restaurant to enjoy a delicious sushi roll! It is a great experience for the food, the level of service provided, and the atmosphere. I definitely recommend getting the Five Star Roll, the Forever Samurai sauce is absolutely excellent. For those on a budget, I recommend the Ninja Roll. And for those who want a little bit of mystery, ask for the Joe Special.
(5)Miss S.
Came here recently to have dinner for my mom's birthday. I feel that Samurai Sushi has gone downhill in terms of quality and customer service. My family has been a customer here throughout the years but I have to say that my disappointment level is quite high. When you walk into any Japanese restaurant, you are typically greeted with "Irasshaimase" but the servers and sushi chefs did not say that at all. I also noticied that they didn't greet a couple of the other customers with that greeting as they walked into the restaurant. Hmmm...poor customer service and inconsistency issue? The quality of the sushi was bleh. I ordered two rolls: C. Webber & 49ers. The scallop on the C. Webber roll was pretty mushy and they overloaded the roll with the peanut butter sauce. Ugh! I can't stand it when rolls are over-sauced - it takes away from the original taste of the sushi. The 49er roll wasn't over-sauced but it definitely was not the best that I've had. In the past, the rolls were a lot fresher and had the perfect amount of sauce. I can't say the same now. I know the taste of my beers and ordered a Sapporo and what the waitress gave me was a watered down beer - it almost tasted like a Michelob Ultra (which is one of the nastiest beers in my opinion). I had her switch my beer to an Asahi. Grrrr I don't think I'll ever come back here - there is a lot of new competition such as Blue Nami and Mikunis which have better quality, pricing, and customer service. This place needs a serious uplift!

From the outside this place looks vibrant and full of energy. That feeling quickly goes away once you're inside and seated in what looks and feels like dining booths pulled out of a retirement home. I had four different items from their menu, all where above $15 which I felt was a little high. The quality in their sushi was bad, I ended up ordering a beer in the hopes that somehow the alcohol in it would help digest the food I was eating. The food didn't look, taste, or smell fresh. I'd feel more comfortable buying my sushi pre-made from a grocery store.
(1)Mark W.
Just returned from this restaurant. Stay away. I had a Groupon that the rude manager of this restaurant refused to honor even though nothing was mentioned in the fine print. She complained that Groupon didn't have enough room for their fine print. I will dispute the charge with my credit card. Sadly this restaurant only seems concerned about their money and not customer service. Poor service and poor quality of food. Stay away.
(1)Linda G.
Amazing food! Try the ninja roll
(5)Phil P.
My son turned me on to Samurai Sushi so I have a special fondness for this place. I took my wife here and we both ordered the same thing...Miso Soup, Dinner Salad, White Rice and Tuna Takaki. Not only is the Tuna Tataki one of the most spectacular dishes visually...it's amazingly tasty with the three different sauces. The staff is friendly making for a pleasant evening. We'll be back.
(5)Thomas K.
This place was horrible.. food poisoning.. doesn't honor advertised prices.. I am never going here again!
(1)Foodie F.
BEWARE IF YOU ARE USING A GROUPON!!! We bought a Groupon which was $25 for $50 worth of food for three or more people. We went there with our party of 4 and ordered over $50 worth of food. When it was time to use our Groupon...they informed us that the items we ordered were not applicable towards the use of the Groupon. Three of us ordered the lunch specials and the restaurant claims that those items are considered "other offers". I understood "other offers" to be maybe other coupon or discounts...but not a lunch special. They even had samples of those lunch specials upfront...and no where does it say "Not valid with Groupon"...or say "these are promotional items". This is VERY misleading...and a bait-and-switch. The restaurant is not doing honest business when they are not clear in what is excluded from the Groupon. While we were there, they also turned away other Groupon users for the same issue. I am sure this has happened time and time again. You would think it would prompt the restaurant to make it more clear with signs upfront where the lunch specials are. But this is clearly a bait-and-switch scenario. THE FOOD: The lunch specials were OK...not fantastic. They give you a lot of food...but the quality is just average. Think: imatation crab. One person ordered a dish that had a picture on the menu...but when it came it looked nothing like it (Think: much smaller). Another bait-and-switch situation. Very misleading. Diners beware.

We ate at Samurai Sushi on Friday night. The restaurant was busy but they were able to accommodate my group of 4 adults and 8 children, all under the age of 12. The staff was friendly and courteous. I highly recommend the HWY 50 sushi, baked mussel special, Jimmy's special, 007 sushi, lion king sushi and chicken Katsu. You won't be disappointed!!!!
(5)Chris K.
Unfortunately, it just wasnt the same once the old owner Benson sold it. Many of the chefs i knew went on to other things and all the servers that knew us drifted on to bigger things. Not to say this is a bad sushi place, far from it, but the quality and service used to be the BEST in sacramento or anywhere else i have ever been, BY FAR. and its just hard to compete with a bar thats been set that high, Its just not special any more. You might as well go to mikunis. One chef in particular remains from the old owner, his name is Richard and if you go i would definitely sit in front of him, he is entertaining and is an excellent chef, and if you are adventurous order the wasabi salad. Its super tasty and will clear your sinuses. And dont forget to buy Richard a beer. I have fond memories of this place, and i may still go just for old times sake and to go see richard, but it will always be a little bit of a disappointment, because i remember how great it used to be.
(3)Jedd B.
Reasonable prices and great taste without the pretentious feel!
(5)Brittney W.
I eat a lot if sushi and this place is hands down the best deal in Sacramento, my husband and I eat here all the time. The sushi is always fresh and well portioned with rice vs everything else (they don't use rice as the main filler as other places). They have a great selection of flavorful rolls and their sea steak is amazing. I can't really speak to any of the other menu items, but great sushi!!!! I love Samurai!!!!
(5)Edmund D.
I came to this restaurant with a group of 20 people during Happy Hour and expected good food and customer service. Instead, the owner denied our entire group Happy Hour prices because we were a large group. On their website ( samuraisushisac.com/Happ… ), it says "Happy Hour is from 3 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday" but doesn't mention anything about Happy Hour not applying to large groups. Apparently, the owner doesn't have the integrity to honor their written policies. I'm a fan of their lunch menu but their customer service is unacceptable.
(1)John D.
Been dining here for 8 years, over 150 times and never had a bad dish. If you are eating at the sushi bar make friends with the chefs and they will treat you like royalty. Their main competitor in town is more fancy but for the value and consistency this is the best sushi you can get. Cheers Samurai!
(5)Marion R.
My 70 year old mother loves this place for their mackerel. After reading some of the recent reviews I was NOT looking forward to coming here for Mother's Day but I have to say it was absolutely fine. We were greeted in a very friendly manner, seated promptly, served by attentive and friendly waitstaff and the food was good. Do I prefer Mikuni's or Sushi House? Yes. But I wouldn't mind coming back here to make my mom happy.
(3)Sarah B.
I got back to this place over and over again. I've been for lunch and dinner and never had bad service, even when they've been super busy. My favorite roll is the Forever Samurai.. try it!
(5)Michelle B.
Love Samurai Sushi! The service is amazing. The food is great and the chefs are friendly and inventive for unique rolls. The Forever Samurai role is the most amazing role ever! If it is a favorite, don't forget your points card!
(5)Missing M.
What a great experience. We sat at the sushi bar and the chef directly in front of us was friendly, quick and knowledgeable. We had the Tuna Bomb & the Crunch Master and enjoyed both. We'd visit again when in the area.
(5)Justin C.
I went to this restaurant because of the Groupon. Also because we went there a few years ago because of some "Sushi Showdown" TV show. I ordered the Spicy Hill Maki and the Poker Face Roll. I don't remember which one was which because they weren't that special. The Spicy Hill Maki roll showed up drenched in sauce. It looked more like a Enchilada than any form of sushi roll. The sauce was so bad that even after cut the individual pieces were completely covered in sauce. The Poker Face Roll was okay. It was decent. The worst part of the meal (my fault) was that the Groupon was not valid today MLK Holiday. Why that counts as a holiday if I have to work confuses me. So this lunch (with another person) that should have cost me $30 after coupon ended up costing me over $50
(1)Luke S.
This place is wild , far from mild, I had a nice smile on my face leaving this place. I love the great crisp Sapporo beer. The shooters are great too. She let us sample the beers they had here too. That was really cool of them. They have a cool wheel to spin for your bday. I"d definitely say this is a great place for groups. There's a lot of room here and the temperature is just right. I love the ambiance and the decor. Great overhead music in here, I heard some really rare songs I haven't heard in a long time.. I love the sushi here. They have the 49er roll which is great because I am a niner fan and I am from the sf bay area. The customer service is great so tip good they deserve it. I used that groupon. I am glad I did so now I know how great this place is. This place is connected to a motel so if you eat soo much that it makes you tired don't worry you can take a nap here.
(5)Sam T.
went here with my wife , food was ok , but when we paid using the Groupon that we purchase a month ago . The short hair old lady I think she is the owner at cash register , was not so happy , she took my phone to the cash register to redeem the groupon without even saying a word like Thank You . When she came back she look at me in a very mean face like she didn't want my business . Come on if you going to promote your business with Groupon then you should be happy and give good customer service to everyone even people using groupon. Think twice when buying and paying with Groupon , you will get treated like homeless person begging for their food , it's like they donating the food to you for free . They want you to pay for the groupon but never use it ! Will never come here or buy groupon from this place ever . I try to give survey on groupon site but they didn't sent it to me when I use the groupon. Hope this review is useful to you folks buying the Groupon from this place .
(1)Laurissa B.
Can I just get a kids meal every time? They're huge and perfect for one adult. :) I got the twister roll a few days ago and it was good. I did not like all the sauces though but I should've read that because it says 5 sauces. Oops. One of them tasted like straight mustard. Fish is always fresh! OoOooOo the baked California roll was our favorite. The service is always fast here and we come here a lot because we love Groupon.
(5)Desee R.
We came here for dinner and waited to be seated for more than five minutes. Two workers saw us and didn't acknowledged us at all. Instead of walking away, we stayed coz we have the Groupon lol. Finally someone came and sat us. Server came and she was very nice. We ordered our food and it was very good and tasty. Server was very attentive and keeps checking our table which is plus. If I'm in the area, I'll come back again and hopefully next time better experience in the waiting area.
(4)Danielle G.
We went in on labor day and were told there were no specials and couldn't use our groupon- which was why we drove pretty far to get here. Service and food were sub par. I normally only get sushi from Ninja Sushi on Folsom, I'll stick to that from here on out.
(2)Yao C.
Would say this place is Average.... Started out with the salad, miso soup and garlic edamame. The souls wasn't hot, the salad had watery dressing, and the garlic edamame seemed undercooked. I had the beef sukiyaki and tempura and it was okay! The beef was dry and over cooked in the broth.... The tempura was okay, nothing special. My lady ordered the beef udon and she did not like it and said it was blend.... The beef was dry and tough! We ordered a titanic roll and again, it was so so! We would only return if we were getting treated!
(3)Yanni L.
Food- Udon (Seafood): This was surprisingly good. Delicious broth, served hot and fresh. Chirashi: I've ordered this as long as I can remember...like since high school. It used to be around $16 and is now $21.99. Nothing has changed except the portion size might have gotten smaller and it now comes with a small side of seaweed salad. Good if you're craving sashimi but not sooo amazing or anything. Miso Soup: Pretty good. Served hot and a generous portion size. Salad: I like my salads sweet and with lots of ranch so this is ideal. Service- Our waiter today was great and really patient in explaining the different menu items. He forgot our hot sake until we reminded him but he was very apologetic and upgraded it to a large--free of charge. Environment-It's not a sports bar, but has a little bit of a sports bar feel. Lots of TVs playing whatever game is on and lots of neon lights throughout the restaurant (not in an annoying way though). Good for large parties and work outings. Decent food but not an overwhelming culinary experience or anything.
(3)Natalie M.
Direct from the waiters mouth: "we are known for our sauces, not really our fish." This overpriced sushi restaurant is not worth the extra half a mile you need to drive there off the freeway. it has potential, but make sure you let them know that you were more a fan of sushi than you are sauce and rice.
(2)Michelle C.
I'm still waiting to find my sushi "quan" in the Sacramento area. This is a nice, and big, establishment conveniently located right off of highway 50. We ordered two rolls, and they were just okay. Nothing to write home about. They do have a rather large selection and it was very busy for lunch. Maybe I just ordered wrong? Some other tables had the bento boxes and those looked much better than what we had. We'll go back for dinner and I'll see if I can re-review.
(3)Jenny E.
Every time I come to Cali this is the sushi place I love going to. For those who weren't so happy with the service I'm not sure what they experienced but we are always greeted when we get there. They pay attention to when our drinks need to be filed and tell us thank you for coming as we walk out the door. In regards to the food... absolutely fabulous. Give them a try for sure!
(5)Catherine G.
We have been here many times (8-10) in the last 5 or so years. We usually spend at least $80-$120...depending on if we have the kids with us or order cocktails or appetizers. I've actually purchased and used 2-3 Groupons here in the past without any resistance or comments from the wait staff. The food is always great and so we come back (except for that one roll last time that had mustard on it...which seriously tricked your palette into thinking you were eating a hot dog!). Today we went, just the two of us, and we ordered the two lunch specials, bbq albacore ($15), pepperfin ($15), iced tea, and one cocktail (almost $8). We loved the food, the service was great and the wait for table and for food was minimal. Then we went to pay, and use our $25 Groupon. We were told we couldn't use the Groupon because we had ordered the lunch special...yet we had ordered almost $40 in food and drinks above and beyond what we had ordered in the lunch special. The waitress basically said the manager (female, older Asian) didn't care. She (waitress) honored it anyway, but it's funny how one small incident changes your perception of one of your long time favorites restaurants. Food was good, but treatment about the Groupon a little disheartening.
(3)Ani S.
It's safe to say that I will never eat here again. I went here for a friend's birthday. The waitress was rude and unapproachable. We were told we are unable to split more than 3 checks for a party of about 20 people. The staff made us feel like a burden. I ordered chicken katsu. Majority of the chicken was brown and the reminder was over cooked. It went all to waste. If I wasn't here for a birthday...I would've walked out.

Pretty good! Went here when the power was out at work. I had the Rose roll and it was a bit pricey at $17 for an average amount of sushi. Also should have been real crab and not imitation for that price. Pretty good overall though I probably will not get it again. Had some of the rolls my coworkers ordered and those were great. Really love the tobiko roll...have always loved tobiko and have never seen a just tobiko roll option. They have the address wrong on their chopstick wrapping though, lol.

Came here for lunch with some co-workers. I will say it's your typical run of the mill suburban sushi place - nothing super special about it - the food was good - but the portions are a bit small for what you pay for, compared to some other places. The menu was fairly vast - lots of variety and they were even able to accomodate a special order too.
(3)Daisey M.
I used to love this place, but it has gone so downhill. The service is slow and they're inattentive. 30 minutes to get our food? 20 minutes to get a bill after asking twice? The food quality has gone down too. I was served cold miso soup that was waaaaay too salty. I used to like this place in my highschool/college days. Maybe I just never noticed how crappy the quality is.
(2)Jessica S.
This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the area! I've been all over Roseville, Folsom, and Sacramento but haven't found a place that compares with this one. My coworkers from out of town love this place too and drive up here on their days off just to eat here again.

Got a Groupon to try this place out and was very satisfied with the whole experience. Staff was pleasant, food was fresh, plentiful and good! Hubby had the ninja and the kings roll and said.both were excellent! My.daughter both had three bento boxes and it was top.much food for one.person so hopefully you like leftovers. Hint: eat the tempura there it never taste.good as a leftover and the dipping sauce is so good. Anyways, overall a good.experience and I will be.back!

We went to this place with a groupon. Parking was easy to find because it was right besides a hotel. As we were seated, we had several waitresses come by but it took more than 20 minutes for them to even take our order despite being very obviously ready. At this time, they weren't even super busy. They also weren't very good at refilling our waters, as we went waterless most of the time there. :( The two rolls I got was the Five star with the forever sauce and the Highway 50 roll. I wasn't really a fan of the mustard on-top of the highway roll, it gave is such a weird taste to it. The forever sauce on the five star though was excellent and very delicious, I just wish I had better service. :/
(3)Aja N.
I like this sushi place!! The sushi chefs are very friendly and always go out of their way to make sure our experience is pleasant. I like how the menu shows the rolls. The fish is super fresh too! Three thins up for Samurai!!
(5)Mel L.
I came here with the girls after a morning of shopping at the Folsom outlets. I've heard good things about this place and it did not disappoint. The surroundings are a little dated, but the place is huge so it would be a good option for big groups. We ordered the lion king, the samurai roll and the benson special. The samurai roll was fresh and delicious, the lion king was good but pretty standard, but the benson special was the clear standout. The roll was served in a large flat bottomed bowl with a ton of their 'forever samurai' sauce. That sauce. Oh that sauce! I don't know what's in it but it tasted wonderful. Portions were quite ample for the price too.
(4)Rob B.
I gave this place another chance because someone gave me a groupon. The service was 100% better. We were seated immediately, food was good. I will go there again.
(3)Amy S.
I don't usually write reviews. But this place is the worst place for sushi! Restaurant is really nice I'll give them that. This is my 1st and last time!!!
(1)Fred P.
A surprisingly delicious meal. Just happened upon this place on Groupon and will definitely be back. Fresh fish, excellent and friendly service, and such interesting and refreshing takes on sushi standards. Ill be back!
(4)Darren N.
I ate here tonight and it was wonderful. I ordered the Folsom rolls and the Forever Samurai rolls. I received some green beans and salad as an appetizer. The Folsom rolls were tasty. I really enjoyed the Forever Samurai rolls which were topped with lobster. There was plenty of meat and the sauce was excellent. The sushi chef was Richard and he was funny and had good suggestions. The ambiance was family friendly and relaxed. I thought the prices were also very reasonable. I will be back soon
(5)Mina Z.
I was really pleased with this place! -good customer service -nice prices -really yummy & good food + even the cali rolls were big! it was just a nice place to go have dinner with one of my friends. the atmosphere felt nice :) If I'm in the area again this is probably going to be my go-to place.
(4)Andrew H.
I had the tiger eye. Food was very delicious. Servers were friendly and attentive. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. I will defiantly recommend.
(5)Lynn C.
Was there during happy hour. Ordered beers and gyoza. Mare vice seemed ok. Ordered 2 rolls not on happy hour. One had spicy peanut sauce. I had to ask which roll had it cuz there wasn't much. The tempura shrp inside roll was super super crunchy. I thought that was weird. We ordered one last roll. Took forever. Waitress said there was a big order and our was next. When we left and looked around hardly any sushi orders at the tables. Well it took so long we took it to go. Got the bill and no adjustment for the delayed roll. Was charged full price for gyoza. When I questioned it she said or you got the other one which had more. Well I didn't know the difference. Long story short I will NEVER go back let alone recommend .

Great food!!! We ate here last night for our daughters birthday. This is her favorite place. We always order one of the sushi boats. Love all the sushi and rolls! Great for 4 to 6 people. We order the $105.00 one. So worth it. We love the leftovers. We always look forward to eating at Samurai Sushi.
(4)N A.
I'd been here years ago and only liked it. This time however, I loved it. I got the Twister roll and something right next to it on the menu. Sorry this was two weeks ago and the Twister roll stands out because it made my tongue so happy, in the OMG more now! way. The order was to go, it was fresh tasty and made quickly. If I could afford to eat out a lot, I'd be stuck on that roll for at least a month, maybe two. I'd probably start smelling like Twister roll. But oh I would be saucy!
(5)L G.
Picked up lunch-to-go today with family and I loved 1- How it took about 5 minutes for a Samurai employee to even notice us. 2- When they finally did...The owner & waiter greeted & assisted a lady who was standing behind us (who by the way entered at a later time). RUDE! HELLO? Are we not standing here IN FRONT of her!? Even AFTER stating we arrived first, they acted like we did not even exist. 3 - It took 25 minutes to receive our order. Restaurant was not busy or packed. So overall guess, the kitchen help was just SLOW! *Not able to show zero stars on Yelp, so this ONE stars goes to the ONE waitress who offered to help us and take our order. Cheers to you!
(1)Brianne F.
My husband and I come here whenever we are craving sushi. The rolls are a pretty good size, we can split 3-4 and be full. They have interesting rolls as well as your traditional California and spicy tuna rolls. The miso soup is pretty good too. Much more reasonably priced than mikuni up the street! 4 stars because sometimes the service is not too great
(4)Huy L.
Visited Samurai for dinner with my wife on a Monday. We arrived a little before 8 PM. The place was pretty full for a Monday. We were greeted by the host and escorted to our table. Our waiter, Jeff, provided excellent service. He was attentive and explained the menu to us. He gave us plenty of time to review the menu and returned shortly to take our order. He checked with us regularly to make sure that we had what we needed, including drink refills. For the food we ordered the 5-a Stars roll and Chicken Teriyaki and Tuna Sashimi dinner. The roll had layers of sashimi and the fish was great. However, the sauce was overtly sweet and chopped scallions make the source chewy. The chicken teriyaki was a little over cooked and the sauce was too sweet. The Tuna Sashimi was delicious! Although the food was good, it is was average. In a nutshell, great service but average food.
(3)Paul T.
I had lunch special for the day "sushi combination" for $9.99 which I thought was quite reasonable, but the food came 30 minutes after taking our order. We asked why it took so long, and their excuse was that sushi men were just starting their shifts. Also the sushi rolls had way too much rice and not enough fish. I think this is how they are able to give such "value" to their lunch specials. I would like to ask that they add more fish to the rolls and charge more they have to.
(1)Alexander K.
I'd give it 2-3 stars based on my first visit. Customer service is poor and food is below average. However, 1 star for their refusal to accept groupon for takeout. Their fine print says they accept it as long as you call 2 hours in advance which I did. Skip this place and go to Mikuni or Blue Nami.
(1)Thor S.
This is where my wife and I go for our Americanized sushi. We eat the cheap rolls and fill up on rice. I can't tell you if the high end raw fish is good because I've never tried it.
(4)Tyler K.
I've been to this place once or twice but the last time was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. First, the waiter took about 20 minutes before finally coming to our table and asking us for drinks. We also just asked for our meals since we had so much waiting time. It didn't really make sense since it was just us and a few other customers--a very quiet day. One of our friends had a dry throat and only asked for water as a drink. Simple, right? Nope. That water never showed up. In fact, nothing showed up! The other customers who came in after us were being served their drinks, soups and sushi before us! The waiter disappeared for about another twenty minutes and we were all starting to get irritated. Finally, we decided to get up and leave and as we were leaving the table, our drinks came--not the food. Since the kitchen is situated in the middle of the place, we could somewhat see into it. The chefs and waiters were all chatting like the place had closed. With the way their service is, I imagine it won't be long before the place is closed permanently! Not to mention, it didn't feel clean. Horrible restaurant and terrible service. Don't go.
(1)Alex W.
Came for sushi smackdown. It was more like sushi scam. To the guy who dressed up as a chef to promote his internet company via a fake sushi show: No one likes a fake. Which brings me to the food...Calling those red imitation crab chunks "crab" is like calling a boca burger "beef." Sashimi was decent. Rolls sucked.
(2)Christy M.
This is our go-to sushi place in the area. We've tried almost everything on the menu over the years and it's always good. We've been dozens of times for lunch and dinner, and always had great service. The prices are fair, and they have a good variety of choices (I love the ninja roll, calamari catsu, and the sukiaki is great on a cold day!) The quality is good, and I love their miso dressing! They remodeled several years ago and now have a big screen tv for sports and a full bar, but it's still relatively quiet (at least when we go). We've brought newbies to the sushi world here who became fans, and we've also brought sushi veterans who loved it!
(5)Peg M.
Good sushi. Good drinks. Good staff. Go here
(5)Shannon G.
Lunch twice in the last month as a business guest, take-out once, and dinner once. Busy and big menu. Target market obviously young and contemporary. Not a serious sushi bar in my opinion, more about volume and a loud, lively experience. A little pricey for the overall experience. Service has been fast and efficient at every visit. The service at one lunch was amusingly attentive; my companion and I were nearly accosted every few minutes with "did someone take your order?" and "did someone get your drinks for you" - over and over again! Through the 4 dining experiences, I've sampled about 10 rolls. They were all . . . just okay. The rolls are rolled larger in diameter than you often see, and then some come in 6 slices rather than 8 or more. There is plenty of the accompanying sauce, and not too much. What I found interesting about the rolls is how loosely they are rolled - are the chefs in too big of a hurry, trying to feed such a large restaurant? I have enjoyed the Lion King roll at several other places - just love the richness of the grilled topping. This restaurant's version is not as good, as the topping is tasteless, and is a mess because of being too loosely rolled. I enjoy their seaweed salad very much. It seems fresh, and the portion is generous. If you plan to review their online menu, beware - their website is big, busy, and not very user-friendly. With the decline of the Orangevale location of Blue Nami, we were hoping for a nearby alternative. I have come to the conclusion that it makes more sense to drive further to get better-rolled . . . rolls!
(2)Joseph M.
Went there for first time yesterday at lunch, ordered three rolls to go. One roll is normally deep fried, but I asked for them not to fry it and just put rice on the outside. Waitress came back and said sure no problem. When I got my rolls, the one I asked not to be fried was bare-- no rice on the outside as I was told they would. Besides, got home and the spicy mayonnaise sauce provided with the rolls was a little old. Won't be returning ever again.
(1)Elena E.
We have been going here for years and we were outta town for a bit and as soon as we came back we went and it was not like it used to be !!! have to say very disappointed charging the same price and giving you half the size rolls than they used to and with the smallest piece of fish so thin so sad don't think we will be going back anytime soon
(1)Roberto D.
Not the same anymore. Goodbye to fond memories of this place.
(1)Stephanie M.
As far as sushi bars go, this place gets points for making me feel like I was sitting in a fish tank, and extra points for having a full bar. The sushi was passable, but overpriced for what it is. The bartender made a pretty weak drink too... which was too bad because if I were sufficiently drunk, I might have considered this the best sushi ever - maybe. I wouldn't rule out going back here, but a second visit would mainly be based on the atmosphere, and not the food or drink.
(3)Bianca A.
After reading the reviews I was skeptical but we were staying @ The Comfort Inn in the same parking lot and it was getting late and we were getting hungry! We ordered the Ninja Roll which was delicious but I wasn't a fan of the runny sauce...there was too much. The Crazy Horse Roll was horrible, it tasted and felt the mushed up, end of the night left overs. The Tempura was average, nothing spectacular but I LOVE tempura so it was fine by me. We also ordered the Tuna Shashimi and it was alright. I'm definitely looking forward to trying some of the other sushi spots in the area.

Wow, this was by far the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. My friends and I were there for lunch this past Saturday around noon. They took FOREVER to seat us, take our order, and give us our food!! The wait staff, two ladies, obviously did not look like they wanted to be there or deal with customers. There were only 5 other tables there between them, I mean come on!! Food was sitting at the station, in plain view for over 10 minutes. Once it was served to us, it was cold. We didn't bother to send it back for fear we would sit there for another 30 minutes. To add to the annoyance, the server didn't stop by to drop off our check, so we got up and waited at the hostess stand to pay our bill. Maybe the service is better during the weekdays, but if I ever eat here again I'll sit at the sushi bar.
(1)Melody P.
I WILL EAT CROW... JUST THIS ONE TIME. We were running around town today and ended on Samurai's side (Folsom). Really hungry, we... yes, we... decided to go to this place even though we had the crappiest service ever during our last visit. Ordered the Ninja, Titanic and Twister rolls. The tempura shrimp was soaked in oil and was not flaky. The fish in the rolls were OK. Just OK. Eating the rolls didn't give me the "Oooh! This is delicious!" feeling. The husband got sake. He says it's melt-in-your-mouth good. Service was good this time. None of that crap they pulled before. We were seated immediately, got our drinks right away. The staff were different compared to last year. Management/staff change? We finished our meal just when people were beginning to fill the bar. 3 stars, OK thanks to the husband's experience. I'm still not convinced.

Went here for happy hour. Great prices and a very fun place to go. Everyone there was happy to be there and there was quite a crowd for a Thursday. Ordered from the happy hour menu and from the regular menu. Both were good. Very good service. Will return.

Let me put this way if i could click 0 I would. First off the last time we ate here was for my birthday almost a year ago and it was terrible then and today we went for a friend birthday. My wife and I were clearly reminded why we would ever eat at this place again. They put what tasted like russian dressing on one of the rolls, the second roll was either a ketchup or barbecue sauce mixed with a tad bit of hot sauce and let us not forget how over-sauced the rolls were. I mean come on samurai sushi what are trying to hide from your customers. HMMM only the bady food you produce. The food was absolutely terrible and my son ordered a chicken teriyaki bowel thing that was baked the rice and chicken tasted bland and soggy. Top everything else off we had to argue with the waitress about the price of the soggy bland teriyaki bowel on the menu showed 8.50 $ and all of a sudden the price was 10.00 $. In addition to this argument she annoyed about the discount coupon 15% off the the rolls were already discounted but the soda and soggy rice bowel were not. I had to remind her of this and finally they changed the pricing. I will be eating at our other favorite sushi places. Just a little bit further up hazel is blue nami so you will find me there for half off sushi all the time.
(1)Stephanie D.
Yum, yum, yum! Samurai Sushi is one of my top choices for sushi in Sacramento. The menu has a variety of options and the bento box has plenty of food to fill you. Plus, as a Miso soup lover, I always get a bowl of Miso. The atmosphere is pretty nice, can fit a large amount of people, and you have the choice of booth or sushi bar seating. Service is fast and the staff is really nice. :)

Came here for lunch with a group of co-workers recently. Seemed like a decent place to have sushi, and it's been in my "I really need to try that place" list for awhile. The interior/seating was adequate. On display were the 4 lunch special options, and the chicken teriyaki lunch box special was quite generous-looking. It came with two sushi rolls, but i opted agains it because the waitress told me I was pre-made with avocado (to which i'm highly allergic.) Instead, I had the Twister roll. I must say that while the roll tasted okay, it seemed like something was missing but I can't pinpoint it. It didn't taste un-fresh, but if I had to guess I'd say that's what it was. Unfortunately, not one, but two other co-workers who had sushi reported that they had queasy stomachs later that evening. I did not. The overall experience was below average. I don't hate the place, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to get back there either.

Learned about this place on opentable.com . Made myself a reservation and was very pleased with everything. I sat at the sushi bar and was waited on with quick service. Before I was through pulling my chair under the counter I was asked what I wanted to drink. The Sushi chef (Ganbaa) immediately asked what he could get for me as I looked up from my menu. The sushi is awesome. The use of sauces is fantastic. This place is by far the best for sushi in Sacramento. I highly recommend!

I would pass on this restaurant. My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time last Thursday for "Happy Hour". I emphasize Happy Hour when you come for happy hour you expect to pay happy hour prices for the all the items on the happy hour menu. We ordered 3 rolls and the chicken katsu from the HH menu and a couple of drinks. The rolls were marginal and the chicken overcooked as compared to Makuni's or Sapparro which I have never had a bad roll from. So after our marginal meal was finished and we had our 1 drink(waitress never came back for more). We finally received our bill and noticed they charged us for the dinner chicken instead of the HH . The arrogant cashier walked back to our table and then came back and said we ate it so we had to pay for the more expensive dinner portion even though we ordered the HH chicken. Really...first of all didn't even know there was a dinner chicken katsu. Second how is it the customer's responsibility to know the right portion is being placed on the table...ridiculous. Needless to say we will not be back!!!!
(1)Jacylyn B.
The food here is to die for!!! especially the sushi!! I am definitely hooked. This is my favorite place in Sacramento to eat. It's pretty expensive here though so I'd only recommend eating here maybe once a month. The staff are very funny and kool. It's gets pretty hyped up here. The sushi chefs like to yell out stuff and it's just all around fun. You get treated well and are entertained. Lots of Televisions to watch games on.
(5)Debra A.
This was my favorite sushi place UNTIL the waitress decided to pad her 20% tip with another $10.00. I called the restaurant, faxed them MY RECEIPT with the added tip and they said "so sorry'.. DONE~!!!!
(1)Breck M.
Look out, Mikuni. There's a contender for the local sushi throne! The restaurant is an old Buttercup Pantry and it still has most of the old decor, but don't let that folksy look foll you. The sushi is great and the prices are quite reasonable. Check out the dinner or lunch specials (your choice of sushi or a non-fish entree). At lunch they are $7.95 to $9.95 and at dinner they are $12.95. The portions are abundant and the value is terrific. They are generous with the sauces, which some Yelpers apparently don't like, but I am a sauce fanatic and their recipes are downright delicious. My dining mates and I were dipping into each other's leftover sauce, just to try the variety of flavors. Without a doubt, I recommend Samurai Sushi. What it lacks in glamour it makes up in flavor and value.
(5)Hank M.
Went and ate a half of a meal at Samurai sushi and a half a meal at Mikuni's up the street. I assumed they would be about equal with Samurai being slightly cheaper. We ordered whatever we would normally order and had beer and sake. Mikuni's sushi was better, ambiance was better and it was cheaper! We couldn't believe it. we now have NO reason to go to samurai...Mikuni here we come!
(3)Ingrid P.
Everytime I'm in Sac town I must have sushi at least once. Depending on where we are and what we are doing depends on which sushi place we go to that day. Today that was Samurai Sushi. We always sit at the counter in Richard's area. I always get the Lion King roll bc I cannot find one anywhere in the Reno area. I've asked a couple of places if they could make it for me, but it never tastes the same. Along with the Lion King Roll I tend to get the Baked Scallops as well. This is so yummy and hard to pass up. Today Richard gave us some orange slices with some plum juice. This was so refreshing and a nice way to end our lunch. This place will stay on the list of "Places to have sushi while in Sac Town"
(4)P E.
Have been there quite a few times... the boss makes me go... the 9.99 box lunch is really very good... do not... do not try anthing else... 5 bucks for a plate of beans.. soup that had one piece of beef. and one shrimp... and tasted yuck... will be back, the box lunch is big enough for dinner leftovers.......
(3)Marie W.
GROSSEST sushi I have ever had! I went there today and my stomach just aches. I will never ever go back. My friend and I wanted to go to Mikuni but it is a sunday at 345 and Mikuni wouldn't be open for another 45 minutes so we decided to try somewhere new. My friend said he had heard some good things about Samurai Sushi a while ago so we figured we would try it. The inside seemed ok, everything looked clean and it didnt smell bad like some sushi places can. That is really about all they had going for them. We decided on ordering 2 rolls to share the cu kani maki roll and the tumon. The Cu Kani Maki roll is absolutely horrible! It sounds good and looks pretty in the picture but it turns out it is really sweet crab and covered in a ketchup and mustard like sauce. I literally almost puked within the first couple of bites. I ate one piece and couldn't do any more. The tumon roll was ok, not good by any means but in comparison to one that almost made me puke, it was edible but thats about all I can say for it. Since we practically ate nothing we decided to try one more roll, just a tuna roll, very basic. It was ok, best thing we had ordered, but for the price it was so so tiny. This place is horrible. For the 3 items plus tea, our bill was 33 dollars. I wasnt even satisfied with eating, we just didnt want to spend any more money on horrible food. Our waiter tried to be nice. He tried to keep selling us stuff though and tried to tell us the picture showed exactly what was on the rolls even though there is nothing that states that there was the gross sauce on the one. To top all this bad experience off, after I left I started feeling queasy. Something just went horribly wring with our meal. I will never be back. I would sooner eat grocery store sushi than go here. It would be cheaper too! DON'T GO HERE!
(1)Tammy M.
I love this place! And I work at another sushi restaurant... But the Joe special and his yummy garlic sauce is to die for... Honestly my sister an I couldve just eaten the sauce on rice an we would've been uberly content...they're all so friendly too. It's a bit of a drive from west sac/davis. But I don't mind visiting a few times a month if Joe's working! -you have to try the salmon tataki too (i hate salmon but honestly i could eat this all day, everyday). Sake here is decently priced and if you know what you're drinking then its great.
(5)patrick w.
This used to be my favorite sushi spot in sacto.... seriously, what happened? granted, my girlfriend was pretty happy with her food choices. I however had ordered sushi...and ended up getting some mayonnaise, rice and fish combination that left my belly in dire straights. that was one of things i really loved about this place...they didnt get into the mikunization trend of slopping mayo on everything possible...apparently they have now. it would have been acceptable if i had something besides water to wash that crappy taste out of my mouth...however, the waitress had better things to do than provide me with the drink i ordered. she was pretty houdini-like...i saw her twice throughout the whole meal..then she disappeared into dimension x, its ok though..i managed to flag down a busboy to grab me my tab so i could get the f out of there... bs
(2)sK B.
Summary: I went multiple times. Sushi was good. Meals were good. Tonkatsu stood out among their meals while donburi and sukiyaki were the worst (edible, not great). Food is overpriced, $10-20 to eat. Service is slow and inattentive. Large menu with a good variety. Details: Japanese is my favorite type of food and out of the ~20 japanese restaurants I tried in the folsom/sacaramento area, this was the best one. Since only 2 of ~20 japanese restaurants in Sacarmento were edible, that isn't saying too terribly much. Sacramento has the highest concentration of inedible japanese food seen I have seen by ~10x. The food is good and consistent, but the service is very slow. Don't plan to get your check, no matter what, within 90 minutes of sitting down.

We sat at the sushi bar and drank sierra nevada on tap. Salty edamame was served. Yum. 3 big tv screens is you care about that sort of thing...full bar...beers on tap...good dinner specials M-Th...happy hour M-F 4-6... We ordered the Super Rainbow (rainbow topped w unagi) and the Benson Special (featuring the special Samari Sauce and perfectly prepared scallops.) I'm addicted. Nice staff and sushi chef. 15% off coupons available in the clipper and at the on line clipper site.

I've been here a few times, generally with a group, for a birthday lunch or business lunch usually picked by someone else. I think I have now given this restaurant plenty of chances to impress me, but I always leave disappointed and swear I will not go back. I keep wishfully thinking that a new visit will be better than the last. Alas, it just isn't worth returning. Simply put... the sushi rolls just aren't very good here. We ordered a bbq tuna to share, and it was more like a cooked teriyaki dish more than anything else and wasn't very appetizing or appealing. Unforuntately, I was disappointed yet again.
(2)Ignacio R.
The service was okay. I got the Spicy Patrick special, and it was one of the best rolls I have ever had. P.S. If you wrote more then this you are either a want-to-be critic, or need a life

We went to samuriai sushi for "Sushi Smack down"..It was more like "Sushi Let down" The "Sushi Smackdown" was a total let down on all accounts. This had to be the biggest letdown of a Groupon ever. I will focus on the food first, it was atrocious. Our table was rating the food for this so called "Sushi Smackdown", and the card did not even have an option to represent how poor of taste and quality this food was. Some of the dishes were not fresh and were extremely foul. On top of that, we were only give one piece of sushi on each 'round', so by the end of the night I had eaten in total one sushi roll, and a couple of other odd and small creations. To sum this up, I walked away from this event starving and the feeling of being totally ripped off. For a point of reference, a couple can go to almost any sushi restaurant in the Sacramento area order 4 - 5 rolls for under $69! That is how much of a joke this Groupon was. On top of that the coupons to go back to a "participating restaurant" were an 8 x 11 sheet of paper that appeared to be printed at home on a HP Laser jet printer. I am fairly confident those coupons will not be accepted by any legitimate restaurant, regardless of the fact I would never dine here again. Lastly, let me set up and subsequently knockdown the theoretical "Sushi Smackdown" show itself. If there was a show being taped, I would be really surprised, as there was a "cameraman" present from 9:30pm to 10:00 pm, and he really just "filmed" a sushi roll eating contest. We were told by the host/business partner of the show that most of the filming was in the back, and since we can actually see the kitchen, I highly doubt he was telling the truth. They (Sushi Smackdown) did have a guy taking pictures, yes still pictures with a cannon camera. I am pretty sure that was a prop to look as if there was really an "event" going on. But rest assured we were told many times that this show was going to be on the Food Network. If this really is a show, and I highly doubt that it is, it will not get picked up by the Food Network as the concept is ridiculous! Oh yeah one more gripe about the host/business partner of the show; he also owned a web development company and used the event to market his company by asking silly/easy questions to give out coupons for discounted web services for his company!

Been here quite a few times now & my favorite thing to eat is the Sake Bomb. I love salmon, cream cheese & fried food, so it's a perfect combination & the sauce is good too. We ordered the chicken teriyaki for my son since he's not a sushi fan & the order was hella big! Tasted really good too, so it's worth the price.

Samurai Sushi offers up some of the areas best sushi rolls in a very chic venue just off US-50 at Hazel. The Samurai menu is classic Japanese picture food with color photos of most items. Excellent service and food quality. Great selection of Japanese suds on tap and excellent non-sushi offerings as well--but who the he'll eats anything other than sushi at a sushi bar? Can't give a perfect 5-star do to the seedy location tucked in behind a no-tell motel--look for your state legislative representative on one of the balconies as you walk in! Just try and park close to the restaurant and remember to lock up!!

They gave me not fresh salmon, with darker color on the edge though... :(

.Egh.... got a boat full of imitation crab. A large party showed up after we had ordered but still managed to get their food and finish before we even got anything on our table. Not sure how that worked out. Waitress comes around when we ask and says... "um... sorry" and leaves before we can say anything else. The fish didn't have any kind of flavor, not quite sure what happened to the place.... Haven't been here in ages, and tonight's visit reminded me why

5 STARS FO SHO! Possibly my favorite restaurant. Loves it here! The sushi is amazing, would choose it over any sushi restaurant in Sacramento any day. The best rolls here are the ninja, or well anything that comes with the peanut butter type sauce, yes peanut butter sauce on sushi is good, wait no, AMAZING. and my next favorite roll is the sake bomb! Its deep fried salmon with cream cheese and the put it on a plate loaded with sauces. Don't let the exterior of this place deter you from eating here. The inside is nice and the staff is super friendly. If you sit at the sushi bar do not plan on a quite dinner the chefs will talk to you the entire time, which isn't a bad thing. Most likely they will remember you and start making you "special" things to try or give you a free desert. I wish I could give this place 6 stars

Samurai Sushi has sunk to a new low! Wife and I have been going there for years and have noticed the slow decline in quality of food and service. Last night we were served food that made fast food seem gourmet. Our server was new and having a 'deer in the headlights" night. We ordered the tempura special(displayed in the entry) and a "Jimmy's Special". They were special all right! The tuna while torn and limp was looking good compared to the tempura special. Everything on that plate was room temperature or less(maybe they just grabbed it from the entryway?). After several attempt at flagging down our server the tempura was on it"s way back to the kitchen only to return a few minutes later virtually unchanged. Our servers response was"sorry ,the chefs in the kitchen yelled at me for bringing it back". The only reason for eating our order was that due to a very busy day this was our first meal, otherwise we would have walked out. Then came the billing!! Our original server did not bring the bill, instead a long time server Justin(wearing a name tag that said "Floor Manager"). Because we have eaten there so many times Wife tries to tell Justin about our dining experience that evening. After about 10 words Justin takes over the conversation telling us that we should have gotten him involved when things first started to go bad. After several attempts to break back into Justin"s speech we just gave up. Justin took his exit with our bill stating "I'm going to make it right!". Justin was very proud when he returned and stated "I took 10% off your bill!". Wow!! Words could not express how we felt! We saved our laughter until while leaving we noticed the tempura special was gone from the entry( coincidence I'm sure, but really cracked us up!!). Thanks and goodbye Samurai Sushi, we had some fun times there over the years

A popular place for lunch.....large kitchen and dining area....lot's of energy, flat screens....gives me a feeling of a sushi sports spot, but not quite that casual. Anyway, for lunch you walk and they always have 3 specials displayed on a small table as you walk in...real food samples, not the plastic model food. The lunch bento box is huge...seriously could not finish without going into pre-food coma so I stopped at 85%. You are given a choice of miso soup or salad and then the mucho bento box lunch with a heaping bowl of rice! I think it's under new ownership since a couple years but the quality and quantity are still there....reasonable prices as well. This could easily qualify as a recession buster by using some strategic sharing techniques.

The more affordable version of Mikuni's. Having been a diner in a past life, the vibe of Samurai Sushi is cute and undeniably American. Luckily for me, Americanized sushi is the only thing I'm interested in, and Samurai Sushi far surpasses other options in the area. Their reasonable prices (weekday dinner discount) and unique rolls are what keep me coming back. All the rolls I've tried are great, particularly the Double Eagle roll and the very spicy Highway 50 roll. Some may sound repulsive when described on the menu, but more often than not I'm pleasantly surprised by whatever I sample. I've also tried some of their entrées, including the standard chicken teriyaki dinner, which was better than most but not worth $12 compared to their far more interesting and delectable rolls. Other negatives include too few rolls without something deep fried and hit-or-miss service. The fish seemed fresh when I consumed it -- certainly fresher than similarly priced "sushi" in the area -- but my boyfriend and I got sick the last time I went. However, I've eaten there quite a few other times without resulting nausea, so I refuse to write them off entirely. Sit at the bar if you want free edamame and don't mind making smalltalk with cooks who speak broken English.

I eat here once every week or two with coworkers. It's close, tasty, and not particularly expensive. The presentation isn't as tight as a place like Mikuni, but I'll take a hit on looks for half the price. The rolls are fairly typical Americanized stuff, and they appeal to a certain crowd. Lots of deep fried shrimp, avocado and heavy sauces, etc. I think that's ok, and I like a roll or two now and again, but I keep coming back for the live scallop special. 6 slices of fresh scallop nigiri with an oil, garlic, mustard, scallion, spicy rooster dipping sauce, followed by the leftover bits of the scallop tempura-style. Sit at the end of the bar and look for Richard, he's the master. He wears a bandana, Samurai style.

Worst sushi I have ever eaten! This is the first time my husband and I have ever left sushi on our plates. It was simply inedible (think thousand island dressing and ketchup meets imitation crab). I still gag at the thought of it! For some reason our friends think this place is great, I now feel it is my civic duty to expose them to many better sushi restaurants in Sacramento like Mikuni, Blue Namie, or even the pre-packed sushi section on Safeway.

Got car break-in in their parking lot. We were there just about an hour. Someone reported to the restaurant but they didn't notify customers. When we told them about it, they didn't really care and said there's been happened 4 times this year and their security cam couldn't result clear images. We called 911, but they just made sure the theft didn't want to steal the car then told us "due to the budget cut, we will not send polices over. You need to file the case online..." We asked the restaurant for their manager, they told us the manager wasn't there. Kept telling us to report to the polices. They didn't even help us to report they just don't care! Even someone told them it's happened in their lot they didn't do anything just let it be. What the ... They just acted they don't care. That's not their problem~~

The platters are VERY saucy. Ask for less sauce and you'll get something that is just a little more sauced than any other sushi restaurant. The pricing is very attractive, but the food itself is not fantastic. The oyster shooter is delicious, though! 3.5 stars is more like it, but pricing and oysters shooters nudge me toward a 4.

I haven't tried all the sushi spots (Including Mikuni's) so I can't give this a perfect 5, but it comes close. Went on a drive with my buddy and I brought up eating sushi and he makes a hard right with his caddy right into this place, Samurai sushi. I was like, alright never knew of this place. First time I've ever been to a sushi place and ordered a bento box. Pretty weird since I'm usually a roll kinda guy. $10 lunch special and I got teriyaki chicken, 2 small rolls, fried tempura, brocolli, carrot, sweet potato, potato pancake and some more stuff. All fried, I figured so the white people can eat here without issue (JK!) haha It was GOOD! The specials are what make this place pretty damn affordable. Food is tasty. Service is great. Very very friendly staff. Portions are well worth the money. I say if you're driving by and have some cash to spare, DO IT!

Went last night had a great time food was great and the Sushi chef Robert rocks. Nice to have the TV right behind the sushi bar to catch up on the games going on.

I love the yosenabe. It's a seafood hot pot with clear noodles with white fish, shrimps, tofu, cabbage, mussels, and scallops. Very good food! (perfect for a cold day) sometimes we get the rolls. Lots of selections and the picture menu helps! Service is excellent! One of my favorite eats around the Folsom area.

It is truly amazing what lengths some people do in order to adapt to the surrounding environments without having to sacrifice much capital. This was my thought the minute I stepped out of my car to view the restaurant. It was the ghostly shell of an IHOP or some cheesy breakfast joint (I heard Buttercup Pantry?), or at least the blue rimmed beams reminded me of one. However, once inside, its a different story. Bright, flashy, with neon and a big bar, I was surprised to see many of my coworkers here in large groups. Looks like the original booths serve the big butts here well, including mine. Upon seating, the menu is large, with pictures and features numerous Americanized rolls stuffed with fried shrimp tempura and drizzled with massive amounts of creamy sauces. Although I usually eat the nigiri, I was not too encouraged to try them here. I opted instead for one of their flashy rolls, the Caterpillar, which came out looking exactly that, complete with the two feelers made out of sprouts. It was a roll stuffed with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, and slathered like a Bouche de Noel with avocado frosting. Have I been there since? Not really, but the rolls were huge and not that expensive. If you are in the Rancho Cordova/Folsom area, Samurai is not a bad place to get some decent sushi. Their bento boxes are pretty substantial as well........chicken teriyaki was a bit tough, but maybe the chef was daydreaming that day.
(2)Matt P.
Sushi, udon, sukiyaki, chicken teryaki... It's all good. I stayed next door for business and ate here almost every night for 3 weeks. I was able to have something different every time. The staff is great, everybody treats you well and makes you feel welcome.

I love a night out at Samurai Sushi! I tend to be very cautious about trying any Asian restaurant that isn't recommended by a friend, so when my brother took me to Samurai after I moved here, I was so thrilled to have a good Sushi haunt (and my brother is about as picky and critical as they come, so a recommendation from him is high praise). The first thing that impressed me about Samaurai Sushi is that it was bright, clean and well maintained, and the decor was not terribly... well... uh... tacky. Not that I'm a snob about eating at more "divey-looking" places, but when you're about to order raw fish, cleanliness is always a good first impression. The menu has a terrific variety. My daughter tried donburi for the first time, and really enjoyed it (she's really into mangas, anime and Japanese culutre, yet she refuses to eat anything that resembles seafood whatsoever... go figure...). Actually, that night it was pretty cold out, so I ordered the udon noodles with beef and tempura. I was happy to find that Samurai is the first restaurant I've been to that doesn't put the tempura in the bowl with the noodles -- they brought it on a separate plate. I ordered ebi, maguro & tako for my appetizers and I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi. The fish was fresh, rice wasn't too sweet (I hate it when that happens), and there were no huge "wasabi bombs" lurking in the center (I prefer to wasabi-up my soy sauce myself -- I've never been able to take too much heat when it comes to spices). The service was prompt and friendly, and a good time was had by all. I've been back several times, and never been disappointed.

Wow, I should have trusted my gut on this one. This place is terrible, the worst place i've ever ever been to. TERRIBLE customer service, I had at least 4 different waiters, there was no direction or order.. The waitress was completely ubnoctious, I told her I wanted sashimi and she brought me nigiri and literally argued with me to prove me wrong. The good made me so sick, not fresh, insanely overpriced. So expensive, my bill for two things was 46$ I will never waste my time, way too busy and that calls for crap food. Don't go here.
(1)David F.
I used to go here awhile ago, but stopped because it just wasn't great (and I discovered Mikuni). Tried it again a week or so ago with my wife and son. The food -- mochi ice cream, some rolls, and tempura -- was really good, no complaints at all. Our server disappeared from the restaurant during our meal without a word, and someone else took over. We were overcharged 25% for one meal, and the server told us a succession of stories that conflicted with each other to explain it away...yeah, they've had new menus out for a month or two, but they don't hand them out to customers? I don't think so. Never going back after that little trick.
(2)Sarah S.
Went here yesterday for a craving of sushi.. but I arrived to find out they didn't have All-You-Can-Eat. In my opinion, it's not worth it to buy sushi if there isnt All-You-Can-Eat because it's so expensive, esp at this place. so i ended up ordering the Combo Tempura and was left disappointed. the shrimp and yams were ok, but the rest of the dish was bland. The tempura sauce was devoid of flavor. the sushi itself (we'd ordered The Lion King) was pretty darn good, but reminded me of a roll i can order for way cheaper at my old job at Sushi Moto in Reno, NV and tastes just as good. The wait staff was wonderful, patient and kind. The menue was quite large and took a while to ponder. all in all, this wasn't worth the price in my opinion. Wont go here again.

Up until today I thought this place was a decent alternative to mikuni's. its one thing to get fishy smelling sushi and its another to have that same fishy smell from BBQ TUNA?! since i have been here plenty of times before and even raved about their sushi boats and their scallops i will go back one more time to see how it goes. i hope my next visit there helps me forget about today's visit.

After eating sandwiches for four days camping at Lake Tahoe, I was ready to eat something prepared for me and served on a plate. So sushi was my choice for my re-entry meal into civilization. On our way up to Tahoe, we met our friends at Hwy50 @ Hazel and I saw the bright blue tiled roof that I had visited a couple of years ago. So as we returned from camping, what better place to go than Samurai Sushi. I ordered my usual chirasi, expecting the giant yellow squeeze bottle w/ "Korean sushi sauce" scrawled on the side to be served along w/ it. Surprisingly, the sauce was served in a ceramic bowl. How classy! Even better was the fact that it was a lunch special for only $9.95; it's usually $18.95 for dinner. Hubby had a chicken katsu lunch special served w/ salad, tempura and california roll. What a great deal and a great meal.

I enjoyed my previous two dinner experiences here but after having lunch here on my last visit I will NEVER come back again. Bottom line: the service was absolutely atrocious and staff outright DISRESPECTFUL. I had been here twice before on weekend nights and found the sushi to be above average and the environment energetic and fun but my last visit here was so bad I refuse to even give it two stars for prior visits. My last visit was around 3pm on Sat afternoon for a late lunch. When we got there there was not the usual greeting, but oh well, it is an off hour right? With football going on I asked to sit at the sushi bar. There was no one else at the bar but when the host sat us in the bar's center a sushi chef promptly grunted at him not to seat us at his station. The host then offered to place us at the corner of the bar closest to the door with no view of the TV, but I asked if we could please sit us where I could at least view the multiple TVs. The host then reluctantly sat us back at the same sushi station where the chef had obviously not wanted to serve us. After the waitress literally threw moist towelettes at us, she took our drink order. 5 minutes later, without smiling,or greeting us the sushi chef curtly growled "Know what you want yet?". I gave him our first roll order but before I could even tell him the second roll we wanted he had already turned his back on us. He then halfway finished the roll before stopping and telling another chef to finish it for him. Ahh...I see, he wanted to eat his lunch break and that was why he was being so rude to us. Instead of treating us like an terrible inconvenience why didn't he just have someone take our order from the start? The new server we had was equally unpleasant. He never smiled or greeted us. It was not just us either. A obvious regular walked in waving his hand and loudly greeting the staff and nobody even returned his greeting. The entire staff acted as if serving the patrons was a chore that was below them. I still really wanted to try another roll but our chef ignored us for 10 minutes after we finished our first roll at which point he asked us what else we wanted. At this point I felt so disrespected and unappreciated that I told him "just the check please." He looked stunned (nobody goes in to just split one roll) but never asked us if there was a problem. The Chinese (not Japanese) waitress grumble something about us as she unceremoniously dropped off our bill without saying "thank you". I am a waiter myself and notorious over-tipper but regret that I even left a tip at all. As we left the restaurant, nobody so much as waved, said goodbye or thank you. I eat out very often and do not expect too much as far as service is concerned but from start to finish this was one of the worst dining experience I have ever had in the last decade. If you value any sense of self respect and dignity DO NOT waste your hard-earned money on ungrateful, degrading "service"

Samurai Sushi Was excellent! they provided me great service and the employees were very friendly. I came there with a party of 5 to watch the NFL draft. Our food was prepared very fast and tasted GREAT! My recommendation is the LION KING i had one and had to get another!

I used to own a Japanese restaurant so I know a thing about bad japanese food. I ordered a sashimi dish called Jimmy's Special. It was aweful.....what was that sauce? It didnt taste like any I've ever encountered. My other friends had rolls and they both didn't like them either. I tried a piece of the roll and I could not even finish a small bite. The tried to hide the bad food with food coloring and presentation though. What's up with the service? I don't think Koreans know customer service....yes...I know...it's a japanese restaurant....
(1)Shamsie E.
Gross! I can't believe this place is still in business! Mushy old fish buried in tons of sauce is the worst!

What a horrific experience!!!!!! I hate that I can give it one star because it doesn't deserve it! We went to Samurai to eat while my relatives were visiting from out of town. We had bought the 50% off discount from Costco a few days prior and were excited to use it. We ordered the $100 sushi boat and udon for everyone to share. We have never waited so long for our food at a restaurant before! We sat there around 7:15 and did not receive our food until around 8 pm. Absolutely ridiculous. Also, whenever we asked for something, like water or extra ginger, our waitress (who had the worst snotty attitude) took an unreasonably long time to bring it. Our food was okay at best and the rolls in the sushi boat were not what we expected at all. The quality of the sushi was definitely not fresh, which is not what you want at a sushi restaurant. My cousin actually felt really sick after dinner and was out of commission for that night due to the food. However, this bad experience turned HORRIBLE when we went to pay. When we saw the bill, we saw that there was an extra $5 charge for the ginger. Never have we ever paid for extra ginger. We wouldn't have minded so much, but our waitress did not tell us that it would be an extra charge and it was written no where on the menu. I don't think that is even legal! Anyway, we were going to pay for the ginger anyway, but we just told the owner that we hadn't been made known of the charge for the ginger. Her response was: "you're being so cheap about the food so it shouldn't be a big deal" as a reference to the Costco discount card. Why would they even sell the discount card if she is going to not want people to use it anyway?!?!? Her belittling attitude was so unnecessary and we will never ever return. This is also not the first horror story we have heard from this restaurant. NEVER GO TO SAMURAI!! WORST RESTAURANT IN RANCHO!!!!!
(1)Cara K.
My dinner was terrible. The salmon was flavorless and obviously farmed. The spicy seafood salad was swimming in a sweet spicy sauce. Upon noticing my dislike, our sushi chef gave me daikon to "soak" up the excess - didn't even make a dent. Still charged me even though I didn't eat it. Don't waste your money or dining experience on this place.
(1)Nikki S.
Horrible. Would have gave it zero.
(1)Shannen P.
I've eaten at this restaurant several times before, but recently this place has really improved. The sushi tastes fresh and rolls are very flavorful. Although they get pretty busy here, the service is still very friendly and attentive. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant to visit when I'm in the Folsom area.
(5)Sami Jo P.
Ugh...just left this place and everyone in my party has a stomach ache...nothing seemed fresh, everything was over sauced but bland. The timing/service was really off- half of the table got their dishes and 15 minutes later the other half. Will not be returning to this place!
(1)gary b.
It was ok for a sushi place, it was a bit to noisy compared to the regular sushi places we go. The food was good and so were the prices I just like smaller places hey have better atmosphere.
(3)Anthony R.
It's an interesting place. A mixture of sport bar and sushi lounge. The food is decent and the pricing for sushi boat is great. The location is right off of Folsom Blvd and it's in the back with big parking spots. You would never have thought to find a place like this so far in a corner spot. My folks and I had a great dinner here and it didn't break the bank.
(4)David L.
Samurai Sushi is located in a stand-alone, traditional Japanese looking building with its own parking lot. The restaurant is spacious with lots of booth and table seating as well as a large private room and plenty of chairs at the large center island sushi bar. There were 5 or 6 sushi chefs working at the sushi bar at the time of my visit (Sunday dinner). You could tell that a lot of care was put into presentation of the food and sushi. My wife and I picked out a few rolls to sample (ranging in price from $8.50 to $10) and we also got a combination plate with teriyaki chicken and tempura ($9.50 for the lunch portion combo plate), mainly for our daughter (which she enjoyed). Our experience here was mostly positive, and we were stuffed afterwards, but I thought that some of the rolls were needlessly drenched in sauce and overwhelmed every bite. Bottom Line: A very nice setting for sure, with lots of choices on the menu, so choose wisely.
(3)Erik W.
Small portions, wasn't very fresh, well over priced. Servers were not very welcoming. Nice building, very clean setting and great atmosphere. Would recomend for large groups. I personally will pass this place up for bOTAN IN THE FUTURE.
(2)Sharon L.
A good selection, other than there are no yellow tail rolls on the menu. But you can order special for a little more. Good service, and good food. It's another sushi place you can put on your rotation.
(3)Joubin J.
Okay. I won't write a long review. But for where it is. It's really really good. The only better place I've been was sanseis sushi in Maui and off the hook in lake taho ca. Really good. Patrick was our bar server and he knows how it's done. Enjoy.
(5)Quang T.
I eat at many other sushi restaurants but Samurai is little more homey then some of the other establishments. I know a sushi chef on a first name basis here, I always sit with him and he is a very experienced chef. They have pretty wide variety of sushi rolls as well as a dinner menu items. Occasionally I get a slow waitress but the 6 plus TV screens at the sushi bar make up for it.
(4)Aaron J.
There are a lot of Sushi Bars to choose from, and although the food here is good, its a large place, and we don't get the warm and intimate service that we've come to expect from a Sushi Bar, and our larger than normal bill reflected such. Despite our large order, there was no complimentary Miso Soup or Edamami. With so many Sushi places to choose from, we see little reason to go here.
(3)Nicole C.
i usually have gotten the to go plates my boss brings them back for me at work. i had the chance this past Wednesday to go in and i was very pleased. fast and friendly service. i got the special of the day which i believe was a terriyaki chicken bento box with California rolls and lots of fried yummy veggies! they also have the best tasting salad dressing! i could dip everything in it haha i will most definitely be going back.
(3)Silviu N.
They greet you with a 'Hooooooowwaaaaaaeeeee' when you come in. Always had the Terriaki chicken here; in not into raw fish. Too expensive if you're not going to have sushi, I think.
(3)Binh T.
First of all, don't read this review if you are curious abour the cooked food. Food: The sashimi is pretty good, especially on Thursdays. I come here a lot with my wife and her theory is that must be the day they get their fresh supplies. Anyways the fish isn't icy and for the most part not so fibrous. I'm not generally a fan of the red tuna. I usually stick with salmon, yellow tail, and white tuna. Toro is ok but not worth the price. Their sashimi are usually soft with that fish fat taste that I like. The wasabi here lacks taste and intensity like most Japanese restaurants in the states. I try to bring my own. So if u like fresh raw fish like it do, this place isn't too bad. Service: There is nothing to rave about. We have had our orders lost. Couple of times we had to ask about our food or send it back because it was not what we order. If you are looking for service, don't come here.
(3)Thursday D.
We in TD are sushi eaters, and despite the appearance of the building, this is a good place for a group to get good sushi. Not for the pretentious crowd, the building looks like it used to be a HoJo style all-night diner tucked in next to a motel, and the interior decoration is not trendy. Having said that, we came to eat. They have a lengthy and varied menu, plenty of choices for those who like raw fish and those who don't. The staff is friendly, there's plenty of room for big groups, and the sushi chefs are fun and creative with their knives. We all left happy.
(4)Tracy L.
Went there a month ago and this review is based on what I remember from then. First came in, the place was busy like always even though it was a weekday. I don't care really if it is, I'm just saying for the review. My boyfriend and me ordered, oysters on the half shell, tempura, and the $90 boat. The first thing that came was the oysters, for I believe $12.95, it was definitely not worth it this time. I remember when I first ordered it, the oysters were actually nice medium sized oysters, this time ...Wow..the smallest oysters ever and it came in a big dish of ice, which made them look even more pathetic. I think I bought soy sauce ice cubes instead. I could of gotten 4 of the same size oysters at Sushi Cafe on Freeport for 6 dollars. The tempura came 10 minutes later...honestly, they have about 20 waiters WALKING around...none of them could help out in deep frying some vegetables? I would also like to put out the question: Has anyone noticed the different batter of the shrimp tempura and the vegetable tempura? Well I have. The shrimp is made up of flakes and the vegetable ones is the flour one. Okay so 'omfg! they use flake batter crap for their shrimps!' No it's not just that. The shrimp tempura they have is frozen from Costco. 'Whattt' It's a huge accusation (well to me..cause if you can't serve/make/won't shell out for fresh shrimp tempura...you suck), but how do I know? Cause my mom bought a box of frozen shrimp tempura from Costco and I ate them. Exactly the same. I don't have the menu on me but I'm pretty sure that the tempura was like 8 dollars. Now to the $90 boat. Came with 3 tuna, salmon, unagi, red snapper, yellow tail, scallop, 2 tamagos and five of their rolls. The fishes them self was ordinary, nothing nice. Tuna and salmon could of been bought at 99 Ranch and I would have gotten the same quality. The rolls- not sure what they were but 3 out of the 5 of them had just tempura shrimp in them to my displeasure (becuause of my Costco Theory). They couldn't put in a cucumber with that shrimp? sheesh. One of the rolls, I don't remember, and the last roll was the deep fried one. It was nice that the nigiri was not tiny, it was the length of a credit card. Overall food is average and over-priced and service is poor :) **Edit: forgot to mention the boat came with a salmon skin roll (see picture). So it came with 6 rolls.

I went here with my husband for one of our date nights and we loved it. This place is amazing! The sushi is fantastic and the atmosphere is great too. I loved the way the whole building is lit up at night in bright colorful lights. I thought it was a nice bold touch. Definitely can't miss it when driving by. We'll definitely be returning very, very soon!
(5)Stephanie B.
Simply the best Teriyaki Salmon I've ever tasted. I love this place!
(5)Katelyn M.
I used to go to Samurais all the time when the old owners were there... now with the new change in ownership, i find it difficult to keep going. with the new management came new sushi chefs. I presonally think that the quality has gone down. before the new management, it would have been a 4 star, after the "new management" (happened a couple years ago i think) i would have to give them a 3. i actually havent been back there in a long while...
(3)Sean D.
Toro, Toro, Toro...Best toro in town served by Richard the best Sushi guy in town. Sit at the end of the bar and have Richard take care of you. If you don't like premium sushi and a party atmosphere then don't sit with Richard. Otherwise he will wow you with his creativity. Also you better come with an appetite and at least $50..
(4)Tracy G.
I have been eating at Samurai since the new owners took over about 4 years ago. The food is excellent at an affordable price. I recently put on my wife's 30th surprise party in the back room with 60 people and the owners were extremely helpful. None the less the party went off without a hitch and my wife will remember it forever. They have a custom roll you can order with tempura lobster on top, shrimp, squid, soft shell crab and spicy tuna in the middle. Top it off with a warm tobiko japanese mayo sauce. It is like desert!!!!!

I come to Samurai when I am craving Sukiyaki. Hands down, they make the very best in this area. It is even great the next day (leftovers). The sushi is okay, but a bit saucy for me. Their rolls are not tight like Tokyo or Mikuni, but okay. Their salad dressing is also the very best in this area. I usually buy a batch for home when we go. Like I said, I come for the Sukiyaki and my hubby and son come there for me. Given a choice they would pick Tokyo or Tokyo Fros for sushi.
(3)Richie M.
good quality, try the samurai spaghetti.
(4)tom j.
Their lunch values is no comparison. they always have real specials out by the door for customers to see and is always a great deal. For like 7.99 you get a huge portion meal. Their service is ok, they have a large bar with fresh cooked sushis and many tv screens to watch games. will be coming back.
(5)Kathy A.
The food is excellent. The menu provides a wide variety of rolls, salads, and other dishes. If you don't see something on the menu, ask and you shall receive. The Sushi Chefs have their own specials that are not on the menu. The staff treats you like you are part of the family and greets you with open arms when you arrive. Two party rooms are available and one has a karaoke machine. This place is 5 star worthy for sure.

Been here many times but today the fish was not even fresh. Very disappointed.

The restaurant environment was really nice, (there is a comment already on here that goes into great detail about the atmosphere). My first complaint was that it was really, ridiculously cold. I don't know if it was because we were directly under a vent, but they definitely had the AC on full blast as well as ceiling fans running. The service was kinda on the slow side. I didn't order much, I ordered the HWY 50. It was alright. Nothing spectacular. I really was looking forward to the place. I love Japanese food but this place didn't really do it for me.
(2)Todd B.
My son and I were in town for a racing event and stayed next door and since we're big sushi fans.....The service and attitude from the staff was awesome. Was a Friday night so it was busy, but they never missed checking in on us. The sushi was very good, not a thing they presented caused any dissatisfaction. The miso soup is great. They had 6 chefs behind the bar, so orders are served up promptly.

Let me sum it up: I'm never going back. We ended up here on a Sunday for lunch because everywhere else was closed. I walked in with a 7 year old kid and a baby. So I asked if we could be seated a little out of the way, just in case the kids were loud, we wouldn't be bothering the other diners. The hostess heard me, nodded, and then sat us right in the middle of everyone. I politely asked to move to one of the empty seats a little further away from the crowd, and she walked one table over and plopped down the menus and walked away without a glance back at me. Okay... weird but not the end of the world. So then we sit, everything is going well. We order and the food comes. First thing I notice is that the roll I ordered looks old. The salmon was dried out and just looked... old. I tried one bite and decided I wouldn't be trying any more. I decided I wouldn't complain, I'd just order a different roll when the waitress came back to check on us. The only problem is that she never came back. 45 minutes later I asked a different server for our check. Our waitress magically showed up a moment later and asked how everything was. By then I was annoyed and let her know that we were disappointed with the service and food. She argued with me saying she had checked on us several times, and that the food looked just fine. Really? Okay, I guess I'm just delusional then! That's me, just making stuff up for fun! Well, in spite of my apparent craziness I think I'll just avoid this place from now on, just to be safe.

This is my first time here...for the most part, I liked it because I was with friends and it seemed a place that many people go to esp. during our economy. There was so much to choose from, but I ended up getting miso soup and highway 50 roll. It was good, the only part that I did not like was the yellow mustard on the roll. I've never had yellow mustard on sushi roll, it was a taste to get acclimated to, however, I'll have to ask what kind of sauce(s) go onto the rolls as they don't specify in the menus. It was lunch time on a Friday and it was pretty busy and I would go back here and try more rolls! Overall, the experience was good and I hope to come back soon.

Went here for the first time with one of my best friends, and it was very, very good. Liked the atmosphere, service was great. I recommend the Samurai Roll

This place has become my sushi place of choice, first as a fall back to Mikuni's on Hazel, then for its location, now I genuinely enjoy going to this place for lunch or dinner. Like I said, if the wait at Mikuni was too long then we would head over here. For me the quality of the fish and preparation of the sushi is equal and that is what counts. I am into straight sushi and sashimi. I am not a huge fan of the many sauces and other flavors that muddy the freshness of the fish, especially a lot of those of some of the rolls like the, "kitchen sink" roll. (flashback) I was working in this restaurant a few years ago and this beautiful slab of tuna came in and the chef was breaking it down. I was standing there with the pastry chef (who was a cute girl, of course) and he cuts a huge piece off and offered it to the young lady. She was like "yuck!", he's like "you want it?" I was like, "Hell Yeah!" So there I was happily munching away on what was probably an 8 ounce piece of toro (fatty tuna belly) when I think about it. Back to the review, I have been there about 7 or 8 times in the last six months for both lunch and dinner. What I like is, it is a fairly large restaurant, so even if it is busy the wait is never very long to begin with. This last time I was there I had the chirashi, I think it was about 3 pieces of tuna and salmon, a couple of the sweet egg triangles, and 3 or four miscellaneous pieces. The sushi rice was cooked properly with a little bit of sweetness and sourness. All my pieces were cut nice and clean and tasted (and smelled) fresh. The tuna was nice and meaty and the salmon had that melt in your mouth quality. 1 star = Poor. I would not eat here for free or if you paid me. 2 star = So-So. I would rather eat somewhere else. 3 star= Average. I would or would not eat here again. It would depend on my company. 4 star= Good. I would recommend eating here. 5 star= Excellent. Driving two hours to eat here, would be time well spent.

Well I am so over you Samurai. You were good back when Mikuni went over to the dark side. But you raised your prices, and worse of all, dropped the quality of your food. Yesterday we had some of the worse salmon sashimi we've ever had. The rolls were also not good. I am dropping one star and will be in search of another sushi place in this area. ------------------------------- Good but not great (but what is great anyway). Korean Japanese sushi place. Yes it was once a diner. But aren't we all at one time someone else? I laugh at the poster who said that their booths remind her of a diner. Except, unbeknownst to her, this place has been REMODELED!!! No trace of the diner exists anymore. As to the food, like I said, good to very good. It has become our go to Japanese place. It's clean, high ceiling, bright, and serves good food. What more do you want?
(2)catherina w.
I was served raw chicken teriyaki tonight. The service was awful. The Manager told me that barbarcued meat is sometimes red or pink, it is very normal. Especially if it is dark meat. I felt like I was treated like an idiot. Everybody knows dark meat turns brown when cooked!!!! She also told me that chicken and pigs are fed anti-malaria medicine so people won't get sick if they eat raw chicken or pork!!!! That really reassured me!!!!! What was she thinking??? I was a moron or something? Please I beg you do not visit Samurai sushi in Rancho Cordova unless you want to get samonella!
(1)E. V.
My best friend LOVES sushi, so everytime I visit him we hit up sushi spots. Out of all the sushi spots within a 50 mile radius of where he lives and works this is by far the best. GREAT sushi, Great service, and Great price. We usually sit at the bar and tell the chef to just give us whatever is good that day and as long as you are adventurous and willing to eat anything, the chef usually does himself proud.
(5)Michelle S.
A bit of a drive from Sacramento but well worth it! It's one of my favorite sushi places to eat at! They have a variety of rolls and salads. I've tried most of them and they are all very good. You can't go wrong with any of the items (try the Forever Samurai or HWY 50 rolls if you can't decide). One thing about sushi here is that they drizzle sauces on the rolls. The sauces are so tasty that I never have to use soy sauce/wasabi. I'm not sure if having sauce with sushi is authentic or not but I sure love it! The only peeve I have about this place is the $1/person for tea.
(5)Erin M.
Great binto box lunch for under $10. The sushi is fresh, and not overly sauced. The teriyaki chicken is always tender yet crisp from the grilling. I love Samurai for lunch in Rancho Cordova. It is also almost always filled with military personnel so you know the food has to be good, as those folks can really eat.
(4)Will C.
Met up with a few co workers here for sushi. As someone who doesn't eat sushi very often, I was surprised at the variety in the rolls and how good the rolls were. The waiter also made some good recommendations for our group. Everyone left happy. Prices were affordable for sushi and the staff was great. Definitely will be back!
(5)Bar F.
Went here a few weeks ago and am ready to go back. I think their prices are fair, the atmosphere is fun, and the staff are friendly. Last time we ate here, we had 2 orders of the special (combo plate) and a roll. We were stuffed from the roll before we even got to our specials! Value wise, this place is good. I like how they have a big HDTV right behind the sushi bar because it was nice to watch the game while we were having our dinner. Nice place to have a good casual meal.
(4)Jason N.
Right across the street from my work. They have a good sushi lunch special for $10, same with tempura. The sushi special comes with 3 sushi and two rolls that are usually damn good however you never what kind you are going to get so very rarely is it a miss. I've sat down and ate before and gotten good service. I actually like everyone who works there as we've gotten to know each other over time so I might be a bit partial.
(4)Hillary J.
I have been to many sushi places and this definitely my favorite. Great lunch and dinner specials and excellent service when you sit at the bar.
(5)Chris N.
Creative rolls. There are some rolls with a peanut sauce that I like.
(4)Sandra G.
Always tasty! Friendly service! The reviewer who called Samurai Sushi "Mikuni on a budget" was pretty spot on. I only wish they were open for lunch.
(4)Arlynne D.
this place is nice. The food is good and they give you great portions. THey have a wheel you can spin to determine which sushi you can get. Must be a birthday special. They serve the food prompt; not super friendly. I had the lunch special and so did my Aunt. I would go here again.
(4)Jen G.
I've driven by this restaurant almost every day for the last several years and had been somewhat curious to try it. So, one evening about a dozen of us decided to stop by around 8 on a Thursday. Being in such a large group, 8 of us decided to go in on a large sushi boat. The sushi was better than expected, but you never get your choice with a large boat (not to mention it was fairly pricey). Granted we had a large group, but the server took so long to bring me my mai tai that I almost gave up on it altogether. Samarai seems decent, but I'd like to go back and hand pick some rolls off the menu.
(3)Donna A.
this is one of my faves. i used to be a regular at samurai when i lived up in rancho cordova. the location is great! (right off the 50) the staff is very friendly (although i never got used to the sushi chefs yelling at me when we would walk in.. i think i may have even ducked a few times...) the decor is nice. i like that the set up is pretty open, and it gets busy on nights where games are playing on the tv. lunch portions are a pretty good size, and the rolls are so yummy. i've also had the sushi boat (and finished the majority of it by myself =) ... *tooting my own horn *) basically, i've never been disappointed. definately a place to check out if you're in the area.
(4)Paulo P.
This is my favorite sushi place. Everytime I go to Sacramento to visit my friend am I definitely going to eat here. I usually sit up at the sushi bar where I watch sports on their plasma tv's. I'm not big on sashimi but I'm big on sushi rolls and they have some of the best. They are fresh and topped off with some great sauces. I recommend the rock n' roll. I've tried the rock n' roll at other places but they do not compare with samurai's. They put soft shell crab on there's and it is off the hook. The staff is prompt, friendly, and full of energy...especially at the sushi bar. I recommend this place to any one who is into sushi rolls.
(5)Victoria B.
I heard really good things about Samurai Sushi - that the fish was really fresh, it was the best sushi in town, etc. I will say that the roll I ordered was creative and delicious. It was salmon (I believe, it's been awhile) with a spicy mayo sauce and lemon slices on top. Absolutely yummy. But the atmosphere left something to be desired, it was loud, crowded, and the decor had all the appeal of a Hometown Buffet. The service was spotty. I don't even think they offered one veggie roll - the bf ended up getting tempura vegetables. Sadly, the delicious roll that I had was overshadowed by all the other negatives. I won't be making the trip out to Rancho again when there are so many great sushi places in midtown.

Great place...food is great..try the Ninja and for dessert try their mochi...And the people are great...i had this waitress name Christine..i dnt kno y i remember her name..hehe..i guess she was great...i had a dinner party there...the service and food was great.
(4)David P.
Absolutely my most favorite sushi place. Their specials at lunch are the best ever!
(5)Jenny V.
I love Mikuni, don't get me wrong. But after a while, everything starts to taste the same. Samurai Sushi does not have that problem. I discovered this place last year after starting to hear more things about it. The service is always great, plenty of staff to help you out in making a decision or just bringing you the yummy food. My BF's favorite is the Highway 50 roll - it's a little spicy (more than I can handle) but worth every bite. My favorite is the tuna tataki -- seared tuna with fabulous tangy sauces shaped like a rose. The food is very reasonably priced as far as sushi goes and is always a pleasure.
(5)Bobby l.
This is place is big, glamous looking, and has TVs. The sushi is fresh and there are lots of variety. One of the best in Sac, too bad its in the boons.
(5)Tim L.
I eat here pretty regularly. Mostly for business lunches and the food is pretty good although pretty generic American style Japanese. The service can be hit or miss but in general pretty good. The lunch and dinner specials are a good value.
(4)Beau S.
This place is great! Just went for my 5th time last night for my birthday and I got to spin the "birthday wheel" and I won a free roll! Don't let all the cheesy neon on the outside throw ya, the inside is beautiful especially at the sushi bar with huge flat screens and high ceilings. The guest service is great, we've sat with Richard (who's great) before so this time we tried Gamba's section. He was so freindly especially with my girlfriend who asks A LOT of questions about everything he's doing and everything around him and he was very happy to answer 'em all. The fish is very fresh and if Toro is available, GET IT! I try something new everytime and have not been dissapointed yet. They will do anything you ask for, a bunch of times my girl would ask what roll he was making and most the time it was a 'special request' and he would explain whats all in it. A lot of times, the guys will just give you things for free to try while your sitting talking. The prices are fair and I see they have a happy hour on weekdays 5-7, but I always miss it. I recommend this place and any sushi chef you get, you should be pleased. They all have personality and give personalized attention.
(5)Melanie I.
The sushi here reminds me a lot of Mikuni, in that they have a lot of gourmet, maybe not really authentic, but really good rolls. Lots of rolls made with tempura shrimp, soft shell crab, etc. Lots of fancy-shmancy sauce on top type rolls, which are right up my alley. What makes them better than Mikuni is that their prices are more reasonable, and as someone mentioned, they remember your face, even if you only go once every 6 months. Samurai is located right off of 50, between Rudys Lobster Hideaway (or whatever it is called), and a hotel (I think it is a Days Inn). It used to be a waffle house, and still looks like one from the outside. Very yummy, Mikuni on a budget. If you are coming down 50 from Tahoe or Apple Hill, it is right on your way.

A bit of a drive from Sacramento, but the food here was surprisingly tasty. I wasn't sure what kind of food I'd find out in Folsom, but the BBQ albacore and the Tender Rose make me think that they have mastered the art of sauce making here. The BBQ had a well balanced spice and was nicely seared. The Tender Rose had good slices of salmon and tuna circled around a mound of shredded daikon, topped with a chopped crab and scallop mix. The sauce drizzled over the top was delish, with a sweetness that perfectly matched the taste of the seafood. The daikon shreds soaked up the sauce, resulting in a tasty, sweet slaw that I am tempted to request as a side dish next time. The long drive and expensive price make me sad (the beer is way overpriced, btw), but the great food keeps this on the list of restaurants to revisit.
(4)Scott P.
1st time I've been to this restaurant, went for lunch. Had the Highway 50 roll, the calamari appetizer, and something that I think was called The Dragon. It wasn't on the menu, but it was filled with avocado, tuna, salmon, rice, and an extremely spicy sauce that was closer to salsa than wasabi/soy sauce.
(3)Pippi L.
I'm kinda shocked this place gets such great reviews. It's okay. it's not going to poison you. The portions are big. I got: Chicken teriyaki lunch box special. Generous portion of grilled breast, fairly routine looking, sauce was viscous and thick and pure sugar. I like my sauce to be more saucy and less syrupy, and I like less of it in general. The box came with miso, fairly normal, nothing spectacular or bad about it. It also had a mung bean salad that was different from the routine tsukemono or sunomono, and I liked that. Except that my mom ordered an entire bowl of it ($1.50, by the way) and now I have to eat it for lunch tomorrow because people are starving in Africa. My mom got the cold tofu and bonito (pretty much totally impossible to f*ck this dish up) and a sea steak. We didn't have the option for white or red tuna, and it came with tons of garnish. By the way, it was the fatty red tuna. It was seared and served on daikon. Nothing special. Also, the tuna didn't taste as good as Nishiki's version, but as my mom had never had that, she enjoyed it more than I did. Truly, nothing exciting here. It's ridiculously over-neoned inside and yes, it used to be a Buttercup Pantry, where I spent my late teen nights noshing on chicken tenders and ranch dressing and getting too fat for my uniform. In any case, the food was alright. Will not knock the socks off. It is cheap for Japanese food lunch though. I did not say Kamsamniddae to the hostess to check if they were Korean, sorry Nobu.
(3)Jimmy K.
Horrible! Bad service & rushed us to order and it was 9:20!!! Sushi was worse than Safeway or any sushi! Stay away!!! Blue Nami way better and Mikunis!
(1)Gen V.
Eat the Richard Rolls. He has the best rolls and he is probably one of the better sushi chefs in Sacramento. I give 2 stars because sometimes the service is horrible and the sushi bar is next to the restrooms.
(2)Aslan B.
I made reservations here a few weeks ago for a large group of friends. We were seated right away even though our whole group had not arrived yet, which was nice. We had a room all to our selves so we could talk and not worry about how loud we got, when we get 12-15 ladies together on a Friday night who have been stuck at work or home with the kids all week we tend to get loud. Some of the ladies were not keen on trying any sushi, there loss, so they stuck with teryaki, tempura, and udon. The rest of us who are avid sushi eaters and one brave newbie set our sights on the lovely display of rolls in a full color glossy menu. I ordered 2 rolls (can't remember what they were called) both on the spicy side, to help clear out the sinuses, a order of himachi, and a bowl of miso soup. Our server was awesome, Justin, he was quick and brought out 2 giant plates of edamame for us to snack on while our order was being made. One of the ladies ordered a Nijia roll and I was able to sample a piece and it was super tasty. Both of my rolls were very good and were not covered in too much sauce, one had a peanut sauce and the other just a sprinkle of spicy sauce (looked like straight srachia to me). The hamachi was excellent, very fresh and just about melted in my mouth, I could have ordered a few more of those and been happy. It seemed to me every one enjoyed their meal and had a good time chatting up the night. Justin (our server) thoughtfully separated all the tabs (without being asked) to make it easier on use when it was time to pay the bill. We stayed until they were just about closed, yes we lost track of time talking and giggling. I had a great time and I will definitely come back again as I would also recommend it to anyone who asks.
(4)Bob A.
Sorry this is a negative 2 star place. Overpriced and underquality.
(1)Bigi L.
I think the sushi at this place is just mediocre. However, very expensive. Fortunately, most times I came was company lunches and it was on the company. With price out of the question, this is an acceptable sushi place. But honestly, I'd actually prefer Fuji in Davis over this.
(3)Kathy K.
I went to Samurai Sushi with great expectations and left a bit unsatisfied. Having scorched the entire inside of my mouth on some deep fried aspargus (review on MVP's Sportsbar to come soon) earlier in the week, I could only eat cold foods. We started off with some drinks, and since I could not have hot sake I opted for the pinot grigio for $5.50 which was a decent pour. We sat at the sushi bar which was entertaining as a sushi bar could be. I threw on an extra star since the sushi chefs were drinking sake and getting trashed while working with very sharp knives and raw fish. Raw fish leads to tons of fun inuendos. The salmon sashimi was ok and the unagi was disgusting. The sauce on the rolls tasted like candy, masking any communion between the delicate flavors that went into the roll. A trip out here made me appreciate my secret spot in Greenhaven.

I heard about this place a few times before actually stopping by the place for a quick late night dinner. Overall, I think the place is a great hang-out spot; the place has several plasma televisions, some private party rooms, and the likes. Definitely much livelier than Ichi Maki, which is just down the street. Their fusion rolls were quite good and their regular sushi/sashimi rolls were on par. However, I'd go to Ichi Maki instead if I wanted to grab better food. I ended up having some grilled fish with a side of tuna sashimi. Since the place is Korean owned, they had the haedeolpahp dish (sushi salad) with the kotchu jang (red-colored pepper paste) and the usual selections of Korean alcohol. I would recommend this place more for the atmosphere than the food, but that always seems to provide some impact on the taste of the food. Don't go there for their wine selection. If you do, your expectations might be crushed; just think of the place as a bar/lounge. Service will vary. During busy hours, expect service to be a little slow. When fewer people are around, the service will vary. Another place that's similar to Samurai Sushi is Arigato Sushi on Howe, near Arden Way (near the Arden Mall / CSU Sac). Enjoy!
(3)Moses H.
Better than average suburban sashimi & rolls. Decent enough fish - not ultra fresh, but good stuff, fine enough. I proposed to my now-wife with a beer-label ring here, and don't go very often as it's way out in the 'burbs, but it is good and they will do the Korean-style chirashi if you ask (with chopped lettuce and spicy sauce). Yummy! Nice owners too.
(4)Chris P.
We try to hit this on our way home to Tahoe (where the best Samurai Sushi (not related) restaurant in the world is). I love this place. It is nice to be able to have enough room for big parties or sit at the bar and catch up on a game or two. Really cool during the World Cup with two games at once. Robert is the best and he will take care of you, just show some respect. Anikimo rocks when they have it...uni is good too.
(3)Becca V.
A stop at Samurai Sushi makes the long drive to or from Tahoe a whole lot better. Actually, Samurai Sushi makes just about anything a whole lot better. I would seriously consider driving out there just for the sushi, and I'm only slightly kidding. This place definitely ranks among the best sushi I've ever had. What makes it so darn great is their extensive menu of special rolls (some deep fried, some not) topped off with various spicy sauces. I *LOVE* saucy sushi! It's always a great time for your stomach to go to Samurai with a large-ish group and order a $100 or so sushi boat. It makes the sushi chefs happy, it makes your table happy. You get to try a whole big bunch of new stuff. Win-win all around!
(5)Kymberli C.
This was quite a drive to get out to, I don't even remember if we just came out to eat here the first time or if we were coming back from Tahoe but I do remember that the sushi here was really good! I remember that we even drove out here from Davis just to eat here a couple of times. They had very unique rolls here, the sashimi was really fresh and even the steak teriyaki was really good.
(4)Rosi M.
I really like this place although the staff appears half asleep and has no personality. My favorite dish is the Jimmy Special with lots of sesame oil, garlic and chives. They're rolls are good and they're prices are decent.
(4)Cathleya G.
GREAT SUSHI, generous cuts of fish if youre ordering sashimi!!! The hot food leaves something to be desired. The guys at the sushi bar are so fun and nice and always remember your face. If youre purely going out for sushi, this is the place.
(4)Gabriel D.
oh man. this is amazing sushi. i'm not a purist - i want interesting tastes. spicy mayo with crazy vegetables? sounds good to me. this is honestly the best sushi i've had in california because it's just so crazy!!!
(5)Vivek P.
Great Sushi, the place that got me hooked on Sushi. Their lunch and dinner specials are a great value, and always filling
